Magic Trackpad Sensitivity

Sorry to post this here but can't fine a "Magic Trackpad" section:
I have a new Magic Trackpad and have "Tap to click" active. Problem is that it is too sensitive. All the time it taps when I just touch it or taps twice when only once intended etc. Is there a way to lower the sensitivity?

MacBookPro 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.4), FCE4, iPhone GS

Not sure if what I am experiencing is the same problem or not.

When I try to move my cursor across the screen I frequently wind up selecting things I did not intend to. I talked to a guy at the Apple Store and he thought I was just using too much pressure. I have been using the Trackpad for several months now and I still seem to have problems even when I am trying very hard to use very little pressure.

I like this device a great deal and use it instead of my mouse most of the time now. I definitely get the advantage of the greater sensitivity but at the same time I am considering giving up on it if I can't move the cursor without selecting random things unintentionally. Is it possible that the Trackpad I have is just super sensitive? The guy at the Apple Store did not seem to have the problem and I was not having the problem on the store's Trackpad.

Clearly there are some issues with the magic trackpad. I didn't discover them in the store because I didn't use it as enough.
1. You can barely brush the pad and it will count as a tap.
2. There is no option for tap sensitivity. That would seem obvious.
3. I also randomly select text.
4. This is nitpicking but I think the issue is somewhat caused by my pinky which hangs down lower. There should be some way to ignore pinky brushing or even leaning.

That's how it's supposed to work!

I agree that would be nice.

You still just aren't used to how sensitive it is. Once you have overcome that it won't be an issue any longer.

Nope, it takes a little time to unlearn old mouse habits, the more you use your computer the faster you will unlearn the habit.

Hmm,

I have been using Mac's since they had the cute little handles in the top. I have no idea how many mice, track balls, pads..... I have used but it would be a large number.

If this is "simply an adjustment to the device issue", IMHO the thing is tooooo... sensitive. I have worked with mine for months and still have the same problems no matter what I do. There are times when no matter how much you call something a feature it fails to benefit the vast majority.

The other possibility is some sort of hardware/software malfunction in some of the track pads, hardware/software combinations...

There it went, for some reason, I could not type in all of pads ^ above, then it was like it was selecting some of the letters and not letting me type anything else. Tapping the track pad seemed to clear the problem. I don't think I even touched the pad before I saw the problem, I was just typing, until I saw the missing letters... It's kind of like the pad selects things for reasons only it understands...Or maybe it is a software bug, of some random nature, that got introduced with the track pad...Sometimes I just seem to be stuck, until I tap the track pad.

The fact that I am having exactly the same "other" issues the poster above mentions which I did not: added to the fact that person has apparently used multiple different Apple track pads without this problem, leads me to believe that "where there is smoke there is fire".

Maybe I will take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

Well the good news is we have choices now, just a couple of years ago we had the Mighty Mouse or 3rd parts, then came the Magic Mouse and now the Magic Trackpad.

For those that aren't happy with their Magic Trackpad (or other devices) please post your feedback to Apple. That is how they learn what users actually think of their products and when they get enough feedback complaining of the same thing then constructive changes are made. We can provide feedback at:

In general I like the trackpad. But I have a problem with click and drag. Say I highlight a word or sentence and want to drag it to a different position in my document. With the mouse it is straightforward. With the trackpad the click and drag works for me less than 50% of the time, instead of dragging the selected text the trackpad will further highlight more text, or act as if I am right clicking. I have 'tap to click' enabled. I have not encountered this problem on my Macbook pro. I suspect that perhaps it is a matter of timing. I've tried adjusting double-click speed in system prefs but haven't got it figured out yet.

I love the trackpad but I too find the sensitivity of it just a touch too sensitive. You'd think they would have a sensitivity parameter to adjust for it and I hope Apple does add this in the future.

I too went to provide feedback on the product only to find its not listed! Come Apple, you guys that lazy? That should have been on your website the day the product is released. How else are we to provide feedback on your great products? Don't turn into Microsoft! AHH!

Seriously, that is the best way to let Apple know what new or improved features we want/need. They actually do listen and respond.

I have almost deleted several emails and files by accidentally bumping the sensitive trackpad. Command-Z to the rescue!

BTW, I have a Solid State Drive now and it flies, along with the trackpad, I feel like I'm working at warp speed.

Hello,
I am using the Magic Trackpad and generally like it a lot. But the sensitivity issue is a problem for me as well. I often find that I have selected things I did not in fact select. Sometimes, I have deleted e-mails or started software functions unintentionally. The sensitivity issue is ruining an otherwise very positive experience with the Magic Trackpad.

I don't think it is a "get used to it" thing. The Magic Trackpad is definitely a bit too sensitive. I have a MacBook Pro and never have the same problem.

Has anyone here installed jitouch ( http://www.jitouch.com/index.php?page=jitouch)? I heard it has a sensitivity setting. Is jitouch approved by Apple?
