iPad mail crashes when deleting mail

On regular, but seemingly random basis I am thrown out of the iPad mail program while deleting mail. When I reenter the deleted messages are still there sometimes I have to try numerous times before I can delete. I have set up mail on my iPad to empty trashes daily. I do not want to delete the. From the server. I have gone in and manually deleted messages in the trashes and sometimes that helps. I have tried restarting my iPad. My software is up to date. I probably get 50-100 messages per day

I have the same problem when I attempt to delete via Edit more than some number between 5-12 messages (it is inconsistent). But you are correct if I do 5 or less the problem stops occurring. Unfortunately since the release of iOS 4 the crashes occur across a wide selection of APPs. In most cases you start up again and the APP works ok. This appears to be a problem with the way in which iOS 4 is handling some memory intensive operations. Although the operations are not that intensive, something in the memory management handling appears to overload causing the iPad to close down the APP.

this is apparently a real serious iPAD bug. Mail app crash is triggered by 'some' content from 'some' mails the iPad gets. [on my iphone IOS 3.1.2 the same mails do not cause any problem!] im my case only one account produces the crash, unfortunately this is the business account, getting more than 50 mails p/day, including messages from list-serves etc. Until now I could not find out, which (typ of) email causes the mail app to crash, too many mails usually get in until I check them. If one of these mails 'have it', you are busted! The only way is:

Delete the account on the iPad, remove all mails on the resp. mail server from the inbox or delete them, renew the account on your ipad and wait till the next crash...

I do very much hope that Apple is working to solve the problem.

One other thing you can try is this.. Make sure you don't have any drafts on any of your accounts. If you do either delete them or send them somewhere (I actually had to send the drafts off to an email address to get rid of them as they would not delete.. Drafts folder is messed up and causes all sorts of issues.
There are various ways to delete try them all one doesn't seem to work better than the other in this situation but one usually works.. Swipe and delete, edit and choose then delete, read and trash can.(still wish there was a better way to batch delete). Then try deleting the errant messages again.
Last resort, try a reset. Then delete the offending account and re-add it.

Just open Settings app and go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and turn off 'Load Remote Images'

Go back to mail app and everything should be good to go. NOTE: When I discovered this solution it deleted all mail in my mail app. I would suggest to SSH and save the mail you want to keep. This is a very simple solution to a very big problem. Hope this post was help...PEACE

I found a "work around" that is not the "5 or less". After many many tries at this, with the email crashing each time, I learned that it will crash only if you are deleting messages while in the "All messages inbox", and you have more than one email address.

Instead - if you go to each mailbox individually, you can then select multiple messages *within that inbox*, and delete them without the program crashing.

This worked for me every time.
