My new AppleTV arrived today (yay!) and I quickly set-up and configured it. While generally impressed I'm observing that the audio and video for Netflix streaming are not synching up properly. I've got the ATV hardwired to my network and am not connecting via wireless.
I have both the HDMI and optical cables plugged in I've tried audio over both interfaces and with the ATV setting for "Digital Out" set to on and off and all variations have the same synch issue.
I've tested the same show with the Netflix app on my iPhone (over wifi) and using the OSX Silverlight player (hardwired) which both synch the audio/video properly.
Anyone else experiencing this? Did you find a solution?
Mac Pro 1,1 (w/ 2.33 E5345 & ATI 4870),
Mac OS X (10.6.4)
I have the same audio sync issues. I did not notice it with purchased movies, or netflix movies, only TV shows via netflix. I will have to go back and try a couple different movies, etc to see if I just missed it. (I doubt it, the sync is pretty far off... hard to miss unless you simply arent watching).
FWIW - I am using N wireless and going through an HDMI receiver. I will also try connecting directly to the TV, though it seems from other posts this will likely not improve things. I do not have an optical audio cable, but I may pick one up to try this route as well.
I am also seeing audio video sync issues, streamed content from Netflix, Amazon and mlb.com all quite badly out of sync when played through my mac mini via HDI, to my Sony Bravia.
I also have problems with audio sync. I was watching Stargate Universe (like a previous post). Worked fine on the Blu Ray connected to TV via HDMI, but was out of sync on Apple TV connected to the same TV through HDMI. Apple TV is on hard wired Ethernet. With the audio out of sync I kept expecting Godzilla to show up in a Stargate episode.
I have also noticed the audio being out of sync with several episodes of Stargate Universe (rented on the new Apple TV from Netflix), which leads me to wonder if it isn't a problem with their encoding house. But I have also seen an audio sync problem with a Netflix rental of "Good Will Hunting" but that was sporadic throughout the entire movie.
Message was edited to clarify that the Stargate Universe episodes were rented from Netflix via the new Apple TV.
I should have done this test before posting my preivous reply. The Stargate Universe episodes that have audio out of sync when playing them from Netflix on the Apple TV are also out of sync when playing Netflix through my Playstation 3. So, it doesn't appear that the problem lies with Apple but instead lies with Netflix or the encoding house that prepared the episodes for them.
The audio sync problem has nothing to do with Netflix. A digital video signal goes through a lot of processing within your TV and is therefore delayed by a few frames. The optical audio signal is processed almost instantaneously by your DAC or receiver and arrives ahead of the video. Many A/V receivers have an audio delay feature to correct this problem. If your TV has an optical audio output, try feeding this to the DAC or receiver.
I bought the latest Apple TV this past SAT to hook up with my new LCD HDTV for the express purpose of streaming Netflix content as I was tired of hooking up my MAc Book Pro to my TV, opening up a browser etc. To my dismay, I have the exact same issues a lot of people are having, namely, a video/audio out-of-sync problem. I find it ironic that two posters here have had issues with the exact same content, i.e. StarGate Universe - the exact show I have been watching with NO issues using Safari, logged onto Netflix and hooked to my TV. And I mean NO issues - never a hiccup - perfect streaming and audio and video perfectly in synch (I have Comcast 22mbps downstream service).
However, trying to stream via Apple TV, the audio is at least 500ms behind the video. I've tried a few episodes and all have the same issue. I've not tried on other content. I have only hooked up the Apple TV with the HDMI cord. So, unless content is streamed differently from Netflix using the Apple TV vs my Mac Book Pro (which I seriously doubt) then it appears to me, that the issue lies with the Apple TV and not Netflix.
I am wondering if hooking up the Apple TV with the XtremeMac XtremeHD Toslink Audio Cable will make any difference.
So, until this is fixed, I am back to hooking up the old Mac Book Pro to watch streaming content...
I'm having this issue on my ATV streaming movies from my 27" iMac iTunes. It was fine until the latest update. If I pause the video for a few seconds the audio is back in sync for a while.
I'm having the same problem -- audio through the tv or from the optical out get out of sync. First time it happened I rebooted ATV that fixed the problem. But it has happened again and rebooting did not fixed it. Hey Apple what's the problem? Answer the question.
I've experienced this problem for some time. Netflix on my Wii works great with the same stream. Exactly the same show on the Apple TV from Netflix will have the delay. Try ANY episode of Hanna Montana, Suite Life, or almost any Disney Channel show. There is something wrong with the way the Apple TV is playing back these shows from Netflix.
I just picked up my Apple TV and have noticed sync issues both on Netflix and streaming content from my iMac (both the ATV and my iMac are ethernet connected to the network).
It's really very frustrating to the point where the Apple TV is largely rendered useless.
I have Netflix on TiVo, AppleTV, PS3, and XBox360. All of them show occasional audio sync problems. Sometimes, but not always, the problem is solved by exiting and restarting a show.
