Apple TV 2 and my Sony HDTV, no HDCP? But my PS3 works fine...
I'm disappointed to find that both my Roku box and PS3 work fine on my Sony KDF-E42A10 HDTV with HDMI however my new Apple TV V2 does not.
What is going on here? How come my brand new Apple TV does not work?
I am getting the following ERROR: This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection. This content requires HDCP for playback.
I have the same problem. Just unboxed it and hooked it up. I can stream movies from the iTunes library via Home Sharing, but Netflix gives me an error about needed HDCP for playback. It's hooked up via an HDMI cable... got me.
I'm running into the same issue. I cannot stream any Netflix or movies I purchased from the iTunes store. I have a TV and sorroud sound system that support HDCP and they are both connected with HDMI cables.
After a ton of research I discovered that I have older HDMI cables. It looks like they are the bad link in the line. I ordered some new ones that say they are HDCP compliant so hopefully that will fix the issue.
I am also running a PS3 that does not kick out any HDCP errors when streaming netflix or playing movies and that's connected through HDMI too. If that's running HDCP then I'm really confused as to why the new Apple TV kicks that error.
Below is information on direct from Sony Support site. I have a Sony TV model Klv-s32a10, I have not ordered my AppleTV yet waiting to see what the reviews show. It might also be useful for someone to start a Sony TV only thread and post your model number, if your Sony HDMI/HDCP is NOT or IS working. This could be a major Sony issue or as simple as a cheap cable.
Do Sony® televisions with a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI®) connection support High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)?
All Sony televisions with an HDMI connection support HDCP.
I have the same problem, hooked up my ATV2 and got "HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection" screen. I tried testing this out Netflix with all my other devices like my xbox 360 and my PS3 with HDMI and I get the same thing.
I was wondering if my old Sony KD-34XBR960 would be too old but I read that all Sony TV"s are hdcp compliant I wonder what is wrong with mine...
Same issue, and I'm pretty ticked... got my apple TV in the mail today (finally), and after a month of anticipation I get it hooked up. I get the same HDCP error message when trying to stream any of the iTunes rentals, or Netflix rentals. Content stored locally on my computer streams perfectly fine with home sharing, and all the other features on the apple tv seem to be working perfectly. But I can't use any of the netflix features, or any of the iTunes rentals either, which will be a major deal breaker.... looks like I'll be sending this thing back! My TV is a JVC 42" LCD, purchased new in January 2010. The specs for my TV say it is fully HDCP compliant. I've tried 4 different cables. My Apple TV 2 is connected directly to the TV, it doesn't pass through a receiver or any sort of switch at all, it's connected directly. My TV has 3 HDMI inputs, and I've tried all 3 of them. What the heck?
I got my new tv on Thursday...plugged it in to the same 4 year old Panny Plasma I had my old tv plugged into (have never had any such problem with the old unit)...the new one worked fine for the last 2 days...netflix streamed no problem.
Just now I went back to continue the same show I left off on last night, and it gave me the NO HDCP message. All I did was unplug the tv and now it works fine.
I sure hope I don't have to deal with this BS every few days! If so, it's going back.
well i found that if i repeatedly attempted to play content from netflix (or a movie i rented from itunes) it worked on occasion.. it was hit and miss.
i swapped out the old hdmi cable for a different (brand new) hdmi cable and it seems to have solved the issue. hopefully there are no more errors! thanks everyone for posting replies
I have a new Sony Bravia 52' that I've only had for a little while. Bought a movie last night watched the whole thing. This morning my wife wanted to watch it and nothing. Not even would my old movies worked. I restored the apple tv, updated, restarted it (about 50 times!). Nothing worked just kept getting the hdcp error over and over on all my movies (I have purchased maybe close to 50 this year). Very upset I called apple support who told me that they could not help me on with it because it was the old model and was out of warranty.
BUT I DID FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!
Replaced the HDMI cable with a new one, and all the movies started working!!!
**NOTE** When I replaced the cable I took the advice of another forum user that said to unplug both the tv and the apple tv when replacing the cable... all i know is that I'm back watching movies!!!
Had the same problem and tried a new HDMI cable... It works! I have no idea why, but it does! I'm glad, because I was about to box it back up and return it!
