Export or Copy/Paste list of iPad apps from iTunes?

Hello,

Could someone please tell me how to export or copy (for pasting) to an excel spreadsheet? I can't seem to be able to do either.

Here's what I've done so far:

After ensuring that I've got copies of my iPad purchased/downloaded apps on iTunes on my PC (by right-clicking on the iPad icon in the library and selecting "Transfer Purchases"), I then can see the entire list by selecting Library/Apps. Two things I've tried are:

1. Menu/Edit/Select All. Unfortunately the 'copy' command on that same menu is greyed out for some reason.

2. Menu/File/Library/Export Library... Anything I've read on this says that I should be able to export to a text file. Unfortunately, the only option I'm given is to export as an .xml file, which is unreadable in that form by Excel. I am using iTunes version 10, so maybe I lost the ability to export to text when I upgraded, I don't know.

In any case, I'd like to be able to get my current list of ipad apps onto my excel spreadsheet so that I can keep track of other things that aren't available to me from within the iTunes program.

Can someone please help?

Thanks

You didn't say what type of computer you're using. If you're using a Windows PC, you can get a list of apps suitable for import into Excel by setting up a text only printer and setting it to print to a file. See Windows help or search the net for steps. If you can't find the steps, let us know what operating system you're using and I'll see if I can give you step-by-step instructions for setting it up.

Once you've got the printer set up, go to iTunes and display your apps in list format. You can choose the columns you want and the order you want them in (within limits -- you won't have complete freedom to choose). Then select print from the File menu and in the Print "Apps" dialog, select "Song Listing" (yes, it's weird to select "Songs" when you're printing apps, but that's what's there). Then in the "Theme" drop-down, select "Custom". Then click the "Page Setup" button and select Landscape (otherwise you'll get lots of unnecessary word wrapping). Next, click “OK” in the Print “Apps” dialog which will take you to the normal Windows print menu. In that menu, select the text-to-file printer you set up before and click “OK”. You’ll be prompted for a file name for the output file. I suggest you use “.txt” as the extension (e.g., “applist.txt”). Click “OK” and your app list will be created. Where the file goes depends on how you set up your text-to-file printer – mine goes to the desktop. These steps are with WinXP – steps may vary a bit if you’re using another version of Windows. If you’re using a Mac, I can’t help. Good Luck!
