iTunes Movie Rental on won't play on Apple TV 2 (2010)
I have my Apple TV 2 homeshared to my Mac Mini where I rented the movie Iron Man 2 from iTunes. When I try to play the movie I get the error "This Apple TV is not authorized to play this content". I can play other content purchased with this iTunes account on the Apple TV.
Suggestions?
Apple TV 2 (2010) and Mac Mini 2009,
Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Just to clairfy, the movie was rented on the Mac, and now it will not stream to the Apple TV 2 that it is linked to via a home sharing / itunes account
Questions linger about iTunes rental authorization but my question is answered. When Iron Man 2 ceased to be available for rent on iTunes, my Apple TV (2010) could no longer play it.
Same problem here. I rented a show on Mac Itunes and it wont stream on the Apple TV. I can see it attempting to start but it just hangs (you can see the loading bar at the bottom but nothing happens).
I watch shows I rent on the Mac on my Apple TV via homesharing. It does not seem to let me watch movies I rent on a Mac on my Apple TV.
When I called Apple, the person I spoke to said it should be able to do that.
The rental rights for TV shows are different than movies (48 hour v 24 hour rental window) so I wonder if the operate on differently from the store's perspective.
The person at Apple told me that what happens when you rent a movie on your Mac and play it on your Apple TV 2 is that it looks at the license for the content and then the Apple TV 2 goes to the iTune store to stream the content, rather than the local copy on your network.
That was why the Iron Man 2 rental would not play, so they said, because it was not currently on iTunes when I pressed play on the Apple TV.
I bought that explanation until I rented Freakonomics which was available for rent on the iTunes store when I pressed play and . . . . I got the same darn "not authorized to play this content" error!
Im just rented Robin Hood on my iMac iTunes store. It is still downloading in iTunes and I can play it on my computer. But I cannot find the movie on ATV. How do I watch a movie on ATV that I rented on computer?
You need home sharing enabled on iMac and appleTV.. Rent and let the movie completely download... Then go to computers on appleTV.. Haven't done it but there will likely be a rentals section and the movie will be in there...
After an hour on the phone with Apple last night, they concluded the local copy of the movie I downloaded (Freakonomics) was corrupted. I have asked the iTunes store team for credit.
So far I am 0 - 2 on renting on the Mac and playing on the ATV2. Iron Mas was withdrawn from rental so I could not get authorization to rent (I see it is back up today for rent). Freakonomics was corrupted.
I'll test something else later but so far the renting on the Mac and playing on ATV2 is not working out well for me. I had better luck with ATV1.
Since the rentals have a 24 hour viewing period, I only test at a time when I have a reasonable chance to finish the movie . . . .
I also have had no luck with itunes Rental Movies. I am 0 for 3 movies. I rented 2 HD and 1 Normal movie. I keep getting the error code -42110. Anybody else with the same problem? If this is "system-wide" (corruption) Apple needs to fix it and issue refunds!! I am very dissatisfied right now. Are you listening Apple??!!??
you're complaining in the wrong place.. this is a user to user forum.. if you want to get a refund do the following..
open iTunes
open your account info (top rt corner)
go to purchase history
find the item in question
click the little arrow button to the left of the item
press the report a problem button
Having the same issue here with iron man 2 rental. I did asked the refund as our Canadian friend suggested. I hope Apple listen to me, but I actually want it to be fixed :/
Same problem here with Iron Man 2. I can see the movie artwork under "movies" in the ATV 2 menu but i get the "You are not authorized..." message after it tries to load for a while.
Again, I rented the movie on my MacBook and am trying to stream to my ATV2.
Does anyone know if this is possible or has anyone successfully streamed a rental movie to a ATV2?
I have rented movies directly on my Apple TV2 successfully but not from iTunes and streamed. I have always rented directly from the ATV2 since you can, and since you can start watching the movie while it is downloading. The only time I use iTunes directly is if I want to purchase a movie.
