iTunes Movie Rental on won't play on Apple TV 2 (2010)

I have my Apple TV 2 homeshared to my Mac Mini where I rented the movie Iron Man 2 from iTunes. When I try to play the movie I get the error "This Apple TV is not authorized to play this content". I can play other content purchased with this iTunes account on the Apple TV.

Suggestions?

I watch shows I rent on the Mac on my Apple TV via homesharing. It does not seem to let me watch movies I rent on a Mac on my Apple TV.

When I called Apple, the person I spoke to said it should be able to do that.

The rental rights for TV shows are different than movies (48 hour v 24 hour rental window) so I wonder if the operate on differently from the store's perspective.

The person at Apple told me that what happens when you rent a movie on your Mac and play it on your Apple TV 2 is that it looks at the license for the content and then the Apple TV 2 goes to the iTune store to stream the content, rather than the local copy on your network.

That was why the Iron Man 2 rental would not play, so they said, because it was not currently on iTunes when I pressed play on the Apple TV.

I bought that explanation until I rented Freakonomics which was available for rent on the iTunes store when I pressed play and . . . . I got the same darn "not authorized to play this content" error!

After an hour on the phone with Apple last night, they concluded the local copy of the movie I downloaded (Freakonomics) was corrupted. I have asked the iTunes store team for credit.

So far I am 0 - 2 on renting on the Mac and playing on the ATV2. Iron Mas was withdrawn from rental so I could not get authorization to rent (I see it is back up today for rent). Freakonomics was corrupted.

I'll test something else later but so far the renting on the Mac and playing on ATV2 is not working out well for me. I had better luck with ATV1.

Since the rentals have a 24 hour viewing period, I only test at a time when I have a reasonable chance to finish the movie . . . .

Same problem here with Iron Man 2. I can see the movie artwork under "movies" in the ATV 2 menu but i get the "You are not authorized..." message after it tries to load for a while.

Again, I rented the movie on my MacBook and am trying to stream to my ATV2.

Does anyone know if this is possible or has anyone successfully streamed a rental movie to a ATV2?
