Text Box around mail reply

Guys and Girls,

I'm going to repeat this question because I thought I had it solved but It's returned.

Does anyone know how to get rid of that annoying text box with the big X in the upper left hand corner? It's always in the way when you try to modify anything when replying to an eMail.

I was told to select Plain Text in the prefs and it seemed to work but It's back now.

Thanks.

Regards, Phil

This does not solve the original problem which was not pasting

but Reply to an email.

There was a time when if you selected some text and then replied/forwarded this "box" would not attach

Now there is no configuration that I have been able to find that will not do this...

The extra steps of having to copy the text then paste it is stupid (not you ... Apple in this case!)

Or, am I missing something?

I am using 10.7.4

I think this new behaviour started in 10.6

This is soooo frustrating.... I wish Apple in all their wisdom would have given US the choice to use this functionality.

It drives me up the wall!! I am not trying to cut and paste as most of this has been about...the original poster was just trying to reply to an email...

There are times when you want to edit what is in that reply and if you click down in the email to make those adjustments or what ever you get that DREADED BOX with the "X"....and many times that dang "X" just gets in the way...

I was really hoping to find a solution...but I guess not....

APPLE???

Or anyone found a solution yet??

[edit] Using plain text is not what I want to do either.... I like my formating and have nice links and signatures that I want to maintain

It's another example of Apple 'knowing what's best for us' and giving us some feature we don't want because they think it will do us good. But it actually makes things unnecessarily complicated. This isn't on the same level as iTunes, though!

I just find that converting the reply to plain text works (Format - Plan Text), and if you want to do something incredibly advanced like changing the font or text colour ( ! ) you can change back to Rich Text and the boxes with the X symbol won't return.
