itunes ultra-slow accessing library on smb-storage

hello everyone,

i own a macbook and had my itunes library (about 250 gb of music and videos) on an external harddrive. since i was slowly running out of space and did not want to plug in an external drive each and every time, i decided to hook up a large hdd to my wireless router (tp-link 1043n) and store all my media files there.

I access this smb-shared drive over wireless. I've tried wired as well. access via finder is not very fast, but acceptable. access with itunes is SO VERY SLOW! deleting a podcast or tv episode or synching my ipod can take half an hour or more - with a spinning beachball and all. itunes becomes totally unresponsive.

I have searched the forums and found some articles on issues with the finder and smb shares, like

SMB Network Share Access slow

Another Snow Leopard NAS SMB issue. Directory delay

but not a really viable solution. I do not have access to any "server"-side software, since that server is only a router.

i know there seems to be a deeper issue with snow leopard and smb shares - but is there any quick fix for this? slow or medium speed would be totally sufficient! please help me stay "unplugged" 😉

I don't know what's going on. It took almost 24 hours to recreate the library and it missed thousands of songs (my library has over 60,000 songs). I used a great applescript from Doug's Applescripts ( http://dougscripts.com/itunes/) to add the songs iTunes missed. So now I'm back to 9.2.1 and it's JUST AS SLOW. Any ideas?

i have exactly the same problem. it's far from beeing the first problem with SMB and snow leopard... i really spend days to fix here and there, new firmware for the NAS, etc etc etc. still i am not able to use my NAS as itunes source for music & videos.

to top it, i just bought a new macbook air and its 128GB SSD is too small to keep large itunes libs locally 😟

External HDD is not an option for me, it is nearly 2011, not 1998... i am seriously considering to return the MBA and switch back to windows. If anybody has a solution, please let me know. Thanks! Cheers,c
