Yes, got that, but would I need Apple TV for each TV to access them with an iPad? I'm not sure if this idea is legal or not, although I can't see any difference between making a movie availalble from a hard-drive and handing someone a physical DVD to play on a DVD player.

No you don't need a Apple TV to watch them just use the remote App.

To watch them on the iPad but to watch them on the TV you would.

OK good. So rip the DVDs to the Mac Mini with Handbrake, use Remote App to connect iPad to the Mac Mini, and Apple TV to show content on each TV. Would I then need something like My Movies app or Air Video, or is that covered with Apple TV?

I had great results with Air Video, to watch the videos on the ipad from the computer. The ATV would require iTunes running on your mini. Or you could simply mirror the ipad display on the ATV. The main problem that I had with the ATV/iTunes solution is that iTunes is unable to categorize movies. So if you have a very large library it becomes kind of a pain. I solved my problem by “updating” my ATV so that it can access the HD directly.

I also would LOVE to stream the same music video to multiple ATV2's. I have a couple parties a year and have been struggling with finding an Apple solution that will let me stream video and audio to all six of my TV's (yeah, that many)...has anyone found a solution? I'd even consider a non apple solution at this point.

That is exactly my problem. Routing simultaneous play of the same content across SIX atvs. Apple says that is not supported. I have played around and I can't even get it done with 2. I think it may have worked before the recent firmware update but not a chance now.

I have Two apple tv's one upstairs and one down. They can take music from my mac mini or phone ipad or any apple device using airplay. what I haven't been able to do yet is figure out how to watch a rented movie if I download it on the mini I can only watch it from that computer if it's downloaded to the downstairs itv then thats where I have to watch it same with the main floor unit.you would think the movie should be able to be seen on any floor when they are all through the same account.

This seems not to be possible using AppleTV - any othe proposals - based on CAT5 or WLAN ??

I beleive the "non synchronous" is because aTV uses buffer on each, righ?

I have a PC with an "old" quad core AMD processor that I use for my security cameras.

I would like to use this PC because it is already "ON" all the time.

I just replaced my ATV-1 with Two ATV-3 (1080p) and I may need one more but I don't know if the PC can handle streaming 3 movies at the same time...... the worse case.
