iPad Mail Troubles - Saved Drafts Disappear, Sent Mail Doesn't Show

I'm having several iPad Mail problems, but they don't happen all the time...
I have finished emails that I want to save as a Draft, I hit Cancel, then Save, and the email appears for a moment in the Drafts folder, then disappears. I can't find it anywhere. And the messages were not in the Trash or Deleted Messages folders nor in any MobileMe folders... just gone. Very frustrating, especially with one very long work-in-progress email.
I have sent several emails from iPad Mail, hear the "swoosh" sound, and there is no trace of them in the Sent or Sent Messages folder and no BCC copy comes through, nor do they appear in MobileMe, but I have confirmed with intended recipients and they did receive the emails. This is not good.
Even more frustrating is the fact these problems only occur sometimes, not all the time. And I can't find anything consistent or make the problems repeat by doing something specific.
Right now I've had to stop using the iPad for any important emails. Any clues on these issues?

THANKS! This helped me as well, I normally use my gmail account to send (and it's set as my default iOS mail account) but I could never find SAVED DRAFTS (after clicking cancel , then SAVE DRAFT)

I would go to the mail folders menu in iOS mail, and there was even a Drafts folder under my main gmail account but it only had drafts from my gmail account (i.e. The iOS mail drafts were NOT ever in this folder , nor in any other of my accounts drafts folder nor any other folders at all, { yes, I went through ever folder looking for drafts})

I HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD THOUGH / AN ADDITIONAL , FURTHER FIX that may help others and def. helped me:

Once I went to settings then accounts, I went to my Gmail account and simply changed its name (I added a "_" to the front of the name). After doing this once I went back to the iOS mail app and then the folders view, under my Gmail account there was now a drafts folder at the top of the list! (In addition to the old Drafts folder {that is part of my web based gmail account} further down the list). So after changing the name by simply one character, I have two drafts folders under my Gmail account and when I click cancel then save draft on a new message it properly appears under the newly created drafts folder at the top of the list for this Gmail account.

So if you are experiencing this same issue, try simply modifying the name of your ex ternal account, in Settings -> Accounts

Note, this entire time under my Gmail account (in setting->accounts) the setting for "save drafts to drafts folder" has always been enabled, I just assume through the various major iOS updates at some point iOS mail did not properly apply this setting/feature to my Gmail account so simply changing the name of my gmail account (again, in settings->Accounts , on the Iphone) caused iOS or iOS mail to properly apply this setting and create the drafts folder At the top of my external gmail account's folder list (in iOS mail).

After doing this I simply tested it by making a new message clicking cancel and selecting saved to drafts, and it's properly saved to the new drafts folder under my Gmail account.

The lknance fix didn't work for me unfortunately.

My work email is Gmail based, I have just edited an existing draft on my iPad that I started on my PC, finished editing, tapped Cancel > Save Changes and the email disappears altogether and is sadly not to be found using the lknance solution, in any folder or in my totally separate, personal Yahoo email which is also on my iPad.

I've tested this by recreating the situation & the same happens again & again. If the original draft was created in the iPad there is no problem, it is just when the original was created on the PC in Gmail and then edited on the iPad.

Furthermore, I've also tested this same scenario, but instead of trying to save the edited draft on the iPad, actually trying to send it & despite getting the usual email sent swoosh sound effect the email does not appear in Sent Items & by trying to send it to myself, I've confirmed it is NOT received.

Apple - what are you doing about this? There is a clear issue here, if a draft is created in Gmail & then edited on iPad, it is disappearing regardless of whether attempting to save it as a draft again or send it. People are losing work, productivity, time & money because of this and it appears nothing has been done to fix it despite the issue having been raised here multiple times?

Frustrated.

Just happened to me again today. Email draft on which I worked for two days suddenly disappeared from Mail on iPad. No where to be found on iPad or other iCloud devices or at iCloud.com. On my iPad, the only email account I have ever used is iCloud. So it is not a gmail issue or anything like that. When it has happened before, I thought maybe I had accidentally deleted, maybe did a quick online search for help, but moved on. This was two days of work I know I cannot re-create, so I am unhappy. Have explored every possibility offered. Tested the delete function to see where things go when I consciously delete them, and nothing ever disappears. The changes to the draft go to Trash and the original draft remains there. Yes, one concludes that the people at Apple all know better than to use iPad or, more to the point I think, iOS, in my case iOS7, for important mail. If they used iPad and experienced problem, presumably they would fix it. Maybe they just can't figure out the problem, or have figured it out but can't come up with a fix. No, if they understood it, they could find a fix. So they lack the capacity to figure it out, or they just don't care. I don't expect any solution ever at this thread, but thought I would add my grievance because this was costly.

Saved a draft on Comcast IMAP account on my iMac. I opened and edited it on my iPad then hit Cancel, Save Draft. Moved on to other emails then planned to go back to my saved draft and it was gone. Not on server anymore, not on any devices, just gone. Tried all the fixes here and none worked. I just found a fix on this link: http://www.imore.com/how-quickly-access-draft-emails-iphone-and-ipad

Holding down on the New Message button in upper right corner pulls up a window with all drafts from all accounts. Was able to open up my missing draft! Trying to send it (to myself) was quirky. As others here have noted, it just disappears, not in Sent folder, not in my Inbox either. But from that New Message button trick, I was able to Open, Select All, Copy and begin again in a new email. When I saved it as a draft from iPads email, it worked fine.

Thank you BebLo, without your post I wouldn't have been able to find my missing drafted email.

And to Apple, if you're listening, I'm a huge Apple fan-boy. But, I have to say the draft email UI in iOS 8 isn't intuitive at all. In previous iOS versions, there was a folder titled 'Draft' underneath the Inbox folder. Very clear and easy.

How would anyone possibly know that you need to tap and hold the icon that's always been used exclusively for new emails to see your drafts? I've worked for years designing UIs for a living. And in my opinion re-using an icon for a different function, after its meaning has been established by years of use, is a really bad idea. Maybe have a menu drop down when you tap the new mail icon instead? I realize that would mean tapping twice to create an email, which wouldn't be good either, but at least people wouldn't have to get out of bed at six in the morning, try it on their computer before Googling it just to find something that was built into the mail app all along.

I don't mean to be rude, but IMHO, it's bad design. And if you need help assessing a better UI design, I do work as a contractor. I'd be happy to help.

Despite reading through and trying all of the post suggestions.
When I go into my ipad mini, mailboxes, scroll down to accounts, after taping on either of my
separate (personal) outlook or (work) outlook web app accounts, my Inbox,
Drafts, Sent, Junk etc. appear, but when I tap Draft, although I can see all my
previously saved list of drafts, I cannot open (to continue editing) all of the
drafts, only some of the drafts open (to continue editing) but some will not
open to continue editing, why is this?

I have a similar problems. I found out that my outgoing smtp had the wrong password. I changed the password to the right one and it is working fine. I forgot I had changed such password and had only changed it in the ingoing email.

Now the problem is that all the emails I sent never left but can't find them anywhere. The question is are they all deleted or store somewhere. At least outlook always keep such emails and we can Send all of them.
