Question

Keyboard lag on imports

Searched for this, but couldn't find anything.

Anyone else experiencing keyboard lag when editing a document imported from MS Word 2007?

Native Pages docs edit fine, no lag. But if I import a .doc or .docx file and edit it, there is extensive keyboard lag when typing. Anyone see this? Any solutions? Thanks!

I have not seen it, but it sounds like there is some formatting in the Word doc that is difficult for Pages to resolve.

The solution is probably to simplify the formatting. Step one is to make a backup of the doc. Step two and onwards is to simplify as much as can be simplified: highlight all text and change font. Remove text boxes. Highlight all text and set consistent margins.... Use your imagination.

If none of that works, create a new Pages document and paste all the Word doc content into the Pages doc. That may clean up some hidden formatting that confuses Pages.

having the same problem, i tried to copy and paste into a new doc but still having the lagging issues

I have the same problem. The only work around for me, I use gmail, is to open attachments I am supposed to edit in the viewer of safari, then copy text from the viewer into an empty pages document. This is horribly sloppy programming from apples side. The keyboard response makes pages unusable for directly imported documents.

I have the same problem, but I'l try Paradis's suggestion, but I can't see that this is a long term solution. I got it so i could edit documents from work at home on my iPad, but I can't go around reformattting docuemnts like that just so I don't have to work from my pc.

The latest update of Pages has fixed this issue for me. I can now import .DOC/.DOCX with heavy outlining formatting and Pages does just fine with it. No more lag.

Just downloaded and installed Pages, and despite whatever may be the latrst updated version, my in-app typing speed is unacceptable. I timed it, and there is at least a 15-second lag between keystrokes. I'm working with a Word doc I imported: all the content is in tables, but it is otherwise not formatted. Any further advice, because at the moment this software is not usable.
