automatically adjust brightness setting

I don't want my macbook pro to automatically adjust the screen brightness with the ambient light. I change the settings in system preferences. Works great for a while, but then start adjusting the brightness again. I need to go into preferences at least every other day to again uncheck the box. Does anybody else have this problem? Is there a terminal command that will permanently disable the ambient light sensor? Thanks.
