Having this same issue. Called Apple today and they do not have an answer yet. We spent a while testing things. Here is what I am seeing. I'm running a Mac Pro with OS 10.6.4.

*If I'm connected to my local network...*
1. I cannot buy anything on my Apple TV (latest model).
2. I cannot view my iTunes account or make purchases on my Mac via iTunes.
3. I cannot view my iTunes account or make purchases on my iPhone 4 (latest OS).
4. I cannot view my iTunes account or make purchases on my iPad (latest OS).

*If I'm NOT connected to my local network (3G service on my iPhone)...*
I CAN view my iTunes account and make purchases on my iPhone 4.

This problem seems to come and go, but it comes more than it goes, and my perception of it coming and going could simply be due to the fact that I've reset my router so many times (that clears it up for a few minutes). This morning, however, it was fine again. I thought the issue was gone...until this afternoon.

It seems to have begun late Friday evening (15 Oct 2010). I first noticed it when I was told by the Apple TV that it could not connect to the server and to try again later (when attempting to rent a movie).

Resetting my router (an Apple Airport Extreme) seems to correct the issue for a short period of time (less than 5 minutes).

*This part is important...*
Another person who has his own account on my Mac can access his iTunes account when logged into the Mac using his own username. When he logs into it via my username and tries to view his iTunes account info via iTunes, he cannot. When I try to view my own iTunes account info while logged into the Mac using his username, I cannot. So, he can see his own account when logged into the Mac as himself. Every other way fails.

In addition, when he is connected to the network via his iPhone, he can download apps without issue.

I have no idea what's wrong here. It seems to affect my iTunes account but only on my home network. It doesn't affect it when I access the iTunes account via 3G and it doesn't affect others on my network with regard to their own iTunes accounts.

My case with Apple is still open. I've just called and left another message with the tech responsible for the case. At this point, the Apple TV has been rendered useless (since I really only use it to rent movies and TV shows). The iPad cannot get app updates or download new apps (since it's not a 3G iPad), I cannot download anything from the iTunes Store on my computer, and the iPhone can update its apps and download new ones only if I disconnect from my home network and use 3G.

It seems like my home network... except for the fact that someone else, on the same network, is having none of these issues. And, the router has been rebooted a number of times, so we're tried that.

My experience is almost identical to Dennis' "This bit is important" - except using Windows XP and Vista laptops. I have had the problem since Friday 15th Oct - It's ONLY my id and ONLY on my home router. All Apple did was reset my iPhone 3GS - to no avail! Seems a lot of people affected by this problem - judging by the number of views to related posts. I hope Apple are taking this seriously and are working on a solution - or I may have to go Android on my next phone upgrade!!

I am having the exact same issue and I would agree, it started around the 15th of October. My issue is cannot download updates on the Mac, or switch user accounts. Restting the modem and router seem to solve issue for 5 mins or so, then back to the same thing. I am going to go and see if I can replace my modem and see if that helps.

Issue happens on the iphone4, iphone3gs, iphone3g, ipod touch, ipad, macbook pro, macbook and a dell desktop. This is driving me up the wall.

I am having the exact same issue

You are having issues with the iTunes store for Windows?
Is British Telecom your ISP?
My issue is cannot download updates on the Mac

Updates for apps in iTunes or system updates for Mac OS?
or switch user accounts.

You cannot switch computer user accounts or you cannot log out/login to a iTunes store using a differnt iTunes account?

Wow, when i said same issue, i meant it had to do with iTunes and not Mac. I would'nt have posted in an iTunes forum if my issue was with the mac updates or mac user accounts. Would appreciate some help rather than useless comments.

No i do not have BT, but i have comcast in the US.

And I think i solved my problem. The DNS was not being resolved correctly, so switched to google dns and now everything seems to be working. If it fails again, will post furthur updates.

BT also tell me that this is an iTunes problem and that many other customers are affected - guess we knew that already! As I've said elsewhere other users can access iTunes via my router and I can access iTunes via other networks and everything else I use via my router works fine. How long it takes Apple to resolve this issue will ultimately determine whether I eventually get an iPad or not - not much good without Apps!!

And I think i solved my problem

Glad you got it sorted.

Just trying to figure out what your issue is.
I would'nt have posted in an iTunes forum

But you did post in *Using iTunes Store with Windows* forum because you are having problems with iTunes on a Mac?
The DNS was not being resolved correctly, so switched to google dns

I suggest you use -> OpenDNS instead.
Their DNS server adresses are
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Can't log into itunes account? can't download apps for iphone?
