help!!!!! iphone 4 battery stuck at 95%

hello everyone,

few hours ago, i find out a problem with my iphone 4. i have it plugged to the power outlet, let it charge for like almost 2 hours, 30 mins. however, the battery percentage only shown 95%. i leave it for couple mins again, but the phone only increase by !%. i surfed google and read from somewhere. i think its macforum. there are two links here.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=984275

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=987368

the forum suggest me to turn the phone off then on again whenever the iphone battery percentage is stuck when it is charged. thus, i turned it off and on again and somehow the battery showing 100% back. what i want to know here is, is it normal for iphone 4 to have this kind of behavior? some of them even said that this might be due to the iphone 4 battery is not calibrated correctly. please kindly help me this issue, people! i will really appreciate any answers from u guys. thanks.

something funny happen again, this time restart/reboot wont work, the battery still will not reach 100%. thus, i tried to press the sleep/wake button together with the home button. the phone restart itself soon after i do that. but still no good, the battery meter reach 100% for awhile (just one sec) then it goes to 98%. next, the last thing i do is, i try to unplug the battery from the outlet. it goes to 100% but when i plug it again just to make sure it really has reach 100%, the battery meter drop back to 97% with a "plug" sign inside the battery icon on the upper right. this is very very strange.. i wonder if you people get what i mean here.. please help me if u have any idea about what is happening to my iphone.. thanks people..

Re-calibrate your battery:

1. Reset your iPhone by holding down the sleep/wake button and the Home button simultaneously until your iPhone resets. Ignore any pop-up messages and keep holding down both buttons until the screen turns black and the Apple logo appears. Now it’s ready to learn new values for the capacity of its battery.
2. Discharge your iPhone until it turns off automatically. The battery has reached a minimum level and the iPhone won’t turn on again. It shows you an emtpy battery icon and indicates to recharge. You don’t have to force a full discharge, you can just use it as usual until it turns itself off. To deplete your battery faster turn on 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS (Location Services) and turn up the brightness to max.
3. Fully charge your iPhone. That’s it, just charge it to the max and your iPhone has now learned the lowest and highest capacity levels of its battery.

ok, thanks a lot to both of u guys. will tell u how it goes once i got the result. however, is this condition normal? i mean, about the forum i stated earlier, why should i have the phone turn off and on again just to have the battery show the correct percentage? does this thing ever happen to anybody else? is it hardware issue? or its just the battery needs to be calibrated? i remember i only have the battery charged when it has reached below 20%. anyway, i will just try wjosten suggestion.

There is no need to reset the phone (by pressing the on/off and home buttons) - just let your battery drain all the way to zero and allow the phone to switch itself off due to a lack of battery power. Then give it a FULL charge and everything should be fine. Like I said, this needs to be done at least once a month in my experience as the battery percentage starts to get erroneous. I have had the 95% thing before and also the percentage dropping very quickly from 100%. Once you calibrate the battery (a posh term for draining it fully and then recharging) the percentage will drop more slowly from 100% and appear more accurate.

wjosten, i just depleted my iphone battery. its charging right now. will inform u guys again when the battery already fully charged. by the way, what is the normal charging duration? i mean, how long it normally takes for a battery to recharge fully? normally mine take like 2 hours, sometimes less before this issue happens. anyway, thanks for the help guys. i really appreciate all the suggestions 🙂

everyone, my iphone 4 finally can reach 100% back. it took almost 2 hours to be fully charged, but i notice something about the battery icon. when my iphone reaches 100% just now, the battery icon on the upper right has a small "thunder" sign inside it. however, the percentage is already 100%. so i leave it for a few mins, then when i come back to check the phone again, the battery on the upper right no longer have the "small thunder" sign anymore. instead of that it has a "plug" sign inside. what i want to ask is, is this normal? why the it takes time for the sign to change from "small thunder" to "plug"? sorry if my question is a bit funny. but i am curious to know. anyway, thanks for the help earlier, everybody. i really hope such thing wont happen to my phone anymore 😀

The thunder icon means the battery is charging and the plug icon means the battery is fully charged but running on mains/USB power. The amount of time taken to change icons is not harming your battery and it isn't a fault, just a delay in the software. You will often notice a delay when you plug the phone in before it 'pings' and starts to charge.

thanks, wjosten. however, i have a new situation just now. i have the phone connected to the power outlet. the phone has already reached 100%, yet the battery icon on the upper right still showing "small thunder/lightning bolt" sign inside. i left it for a few mins just to see whether the sign will change. it really did, the "small thunder sign/lightning bolt" sign change to "plug" sign few mins after i left it. by the way, do u know why the sign doesnt change from "small thunder/lightning bolt" straight away, wjosten?

its happening again!! sighh.. i have been monitoring it for few days just to see if this happen again and wth, its happening again!! the battery meter now stuck at 97% but the battery icon on the upper right has change from the "small thunder/lightning bolt" into "plug" sign. i have been charging it for 2 hours 10 mins. yet the meter doesnt go to 100%. i had calibrated the battery once this month by running all the iphone battery to 0% (phone off itself) then recharge it back to 100% (took like 2 hours). anybody, please help me with this. is this happening to anybody else beside me. or is it just me? is it hardware (battery issue) or just the software? coz, when i restart the iphone in this kind of condition, the battery will be back from 97% to 100% just like last time.. Please help me, people!! will appreciate any answer from u guys 🙂

hey wjosten i hav one issue with my iphone 4 .. its battery is not discharging at all i tried all which u said earlier and its at 95% if i charged it fully tht too after switching off my phone.

if i again switch it off after using it all the ways and put on, it takes any random percentage like 76% ,54% ,46% whatever.

and somtimes it just gets off/on its own showing same last percentage of battery.

and whn i put it for charging direct or usb by mac its shows battery full icon with same percentage like if its 45% icon doesnt shows its charging rather it shows full icon next to 45%.

i tried rebooting , resetting, on/off everything.

funny part if i dont swtich off my phone as it stuck to 76% or any percentage it wont switch off my battery didnt get discharge for 3 days if i dont switch off.

plzzzzzz help ???

Hopefully this helps everyone.

The release of iOS 5 has some bugs in it, Apple stated they are working on correcting the issues and releasing a update, but such issues are with battery.

I see some people are asking why it continues to charge after it reaches 100%. The iPhones, iPods, ect. are designed to charge at fast charge to 100% as stated which is really only 99%, then when it reaches said level the phone switches to a trickle charge for some time until the battery is fully charged. A app which will help better understand this is called Battery Doctor Pro.

This said issue with battery is somewhat frustrating to most. The battery doesn't seem to charge, stuck at a certain percent, or drains fast. All these will hopefully be correct with the update.
