This is just the service to which it is connected - meaning not 3g.


It does not mean that it is actively using the edge network, it simply can access the edge network if needed.

It is highly unlikely that this is causing your iphone to get hot and drain the battery.

Im not sure whether its draining ur battery ornt but u may off it if u are not using it. Go to Settings> General > network > cellular data > off. My question is, am i getting charges for let it on?

If you are connecting to the internet via the edge network then yes, you are getting charged ( or it is counting against your allotment).

Checking/fetching e-mail, visual voicemail, apps, location services, can all use the internet.


The iphone is designed to have access to the internet available at all times.

You can turn off the data option if you like.

SO, i may leave it on as long im nt connecting internet via that? cuz last week i did askd the same question, and 1 of the guy said they will charge me for leave it on..

You are charged when you use it.

As iphone is designed to always have access to internet available, then there may be some use of the internet even when you are doing nothing ( i.e. visual voicemail, checkin/pushing/fetching e-mail, notifications, location services, etc).
