Exporting, lossless quality

Exporting, lossless quality

Hey all,

I am sure this is a regular question the only solution I saw looking back was in Quicktime 7 changing the preferences however on my version of Quicktime there is no preferences box.

I am trying to get a lossless export but the drop in quality when I follow instructions is still massive.

Any ideas?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4)

You should still be able to find your Quicktime 7. After upgrading to 10.6 it was moved to the 'Utilities' folder.

What are you exporting and how are you exporting? You should export to QuickTime Movie.

I'm exporting to quick time movie, and there doesn't seem to be any quicktime option in my utilities folder 😟

Then you didn't install it. It is on the 10.6 install disc.

I'm assuming you already were using QT 7, so you shouldn't have had to reinstall it when you upgraded. It was moved to Applications > Utilities > Quicktime 7

Thanks for the help so far guys!

Quicktime 7 wasn't installed so I have no installed it and ticket the relevant boxes but still the same frustrating thing is happening and i'm getting a large reduction in quality.

Here are full details of my export:
Quicktime Movie
Make movie self contained is ticked
I customized the sequence preset editor
Frame size 2048x1152 (my resolution)
pixel aspect ratio HD (1440x1080)
Field Dominance Lower
Compressor PNG
Quality 100%

Anyone spot anything that may be the cause?

You don't need QT7 to do this thing to which you are referring as "export." What are you really trying to do and in what application are you doing it?

How do you know for sure you are losing quality? QTX may or may not be showing you an accurate playback but you may not be performing your export properly and that is the more likely explanation.

Are you carefully using same settings as sequence? Or are you using a lossless codec? Which one?

How did you arrive at that? Why anamorphic? Why lower field, when HD is typically upper? Why PNG?

What's the original media that's in this sequence?

Sorry guys I am very new to this, i'm creating some footage from motion 4 and exporting it (with perfect quality as I can see in the playback) then I drop it into final cut and its gone.

Second type of footage is going to be from screenflow.

I have to raise my hand I have absolutely no idea how to properly export things or what any of that stuff means for the most part.

I have been trying different combinations after googling Final cut pro lossless export, but nothing seems to have worked.

Hey guys, just to be as clear as possible the majority of my footage has been worked from screenflow ( http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/features.htm) and Fraps for windows ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraps) and footage created by me (short animations) in Motion 4.

Anyone know what export settings I should be using.

What settings are your sequence? Export to QuickTime Movie to maintain the sequence quality.

The quality of your export is relative to the source media, and your sequence settings in FCP.

Go back to basics... what are your sequence settings in FCP?

will have a look when I get home (currently in work). I've tried exporting as a Quicktime Movie but there is still a large drop in qualiy.

Also the source footage when viewed as source footage is of very high quality. Even just simple text looks pixelated when exported in final cut.

Will check my settings later on and report back!

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you're editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you're editing.

The item properties of the sequence were the issue, I have now corrected it and the quality is perfect!
