Netflix pausing/buffering issues

Hey all!

I bought my apple tv yesterday, mainly for the purposes of watching netflix, so my parents can have the wii back. Everything works fine, youtube, flicker, itunes and so forth, but then when I would try to watch an episode of tv on netflix, every one to two mins it would pause for 30ish seconds and have the spinning wheel going, like it was buffering.

Has anyone else had these issues? If so, how do you fix it?

Thanks!

I'm not asking them to reply to any of the posts, but don't you think they'd be at least a little interested in problems such as these, especially when it's this common ?

And it absolutely IS a problem with Apple TV, this does not happen on any other device and it is constant and totally unusable with Apple TV. I'm not saying Netflix is flawless, I've had it buffer maybe two or three times (for a few seconds) over the last three years. I can't watch ANYTHING on Netflix without it buffering every 30-45 seconds for a minute or two EACH time !!!

What is you favorite Kool Aid flavor ?

Fair enough...

But I still think Apple is the one who needs to fix this issue since I can stream Netflix on my; iPad, iMac, iPhone, MacBook Pro, and Wii, with almost no problems at all. But it won't work at all on my ATV ... I fail to see how Netflix can fix Apple's glitch , and as stated tons of times already, this problem got WAY worse when the latest update for ATV came out..

People are upset because Netflix is probably the number one reason for getting ATV in the first place.

Let's just hope they've identified the issue and are working towards a fix.

All I know is that I can stream at the exact same time to my Wii, Laptop, and Desktop all through the same router (Airport Extreme of course..) and only my ATV has any issues at all... so that is concrete proof that the problem is inside my ATV. It ***** because I can't even count the number of Apple products I have and this is the first thing I have bought from Apple that really doesn't work at all, other than that I absolutely love all my other Apple products...

so even though it works on four other devices at the exact same time and through the exact same router that isn't enough proof for you.. I don't know what would be considered proof since that eliminates server issues and Netflix is running on every other device...

Yep, I've seen other issues cited, but NONE are anywhere as bad, or as common as they are with ATV. There's a serious problem, this thing's going back and I'll just go back to watching it on Wii , which works flawlessly even though Netflix is to blame ...

Yes Netflix does seem to work on settings below HD, but what is the point of Apple TV then?

Netflix movies stop every two minutes or you have to watch the movies in low resolution.

The movies and TV offered are much more expensive than Netflix or pay-per-view from my local cable company.

The air play feature is good, but OS 5 makes it hard to find.

You can't get regular TV or cable programs in real time, so forget about news or world events.

This was a disappointing experience,

I retuned my Apple TV today even though the trip to the mall was brutal. I need a new gift idea before Christmas. We already have a iPhone, iPad,and Airbook, but I am thinking Wii or ...?

I understand...I have been told that you can hard wire the Apple TV with an ethernet cord to your router and that would solve the problem. According to Netflix, every 18" of distance between Apple TV and the router makes a difference in the wireless reception for that tiny device. I lowered the video to HD 720 x 480 and no problems...its a trade off. I can also stream in HD from my ipad2 with no problem.

There is a setting in your account to change the quality of your video, with the lowest setting of Good. I selected Good rather than Best and the problems seems to have gone away.

In my case the problem seems to occure more in the evening than during the day and since I am connecting to a shared WiFi access point it could be a traffic issue on the LAN....

Originally my ATV2 made a great Netflix streamer. My ATV2 has always been hard wired (cat5). It is only after the last two updates that Netflix buffering problems presented. At the same time the quality of the Netflix image degraded. I have gone back to my Samsung BD/DVD player to stream Netflix which has no buffering issues and the image is beautiful. The radical change in performance had me wondering if Apple has a new axe to grind with Netflix.
