Email receiving problems

I have had my iPad for 2 weeks but can't get email to work.
I synched my Pad with iTunes and let it synch my 3 email account settings. I can send and receive emails but the emails I receive on my iPad either come through with 2 or 3 missing, or miss a whole batch on my main account.
And on my other 2 accounts I am not getting receiving any emails.

I can send from all 3.

I then deleted all the accounts on my iPad and deselected synching email account in iTunes then sent them up manually on the iPad. I could neither send or receive anything on any of my accounts.

I have now deleted the accounts again and re-synched them through iTunes. I am receiving some but not all emails on my main email account and nothing on the other 2 and ma now at a complete loss.

When I manually set up the accounts I set them exactly as they appear on my iPhone.

I use Entourage and after looking in the account set up in Entourage there are differences in the way they are set up. Do I set them up on the Ipad same as my iPhone or as in Entourage?

I am running OS X 10.6.4
Have iPhone 3G and iPad wifi

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Go to Settings > Mail > Account > Advanced > and match the Server Port to the port number that works for the computer, and make sure they are all matching for each email account you have. Also, check the Authentication to see that matches the settings on the computer. And is Use SSL switched on or off on the computer and similarly on the iPad.

You might also delete, on the account page, the password under Incoming Mail Server and then re-enter it mannually. Never hurts to manually enter the passwords in case there is an encryption transfer error. The iPad displays each character you type in plain text for a couple seconds so you can watch each character and make sure it is correct before it becomes just a display dot.

My Ipad. It was working fine, then this morning it started to have problems with the mail. it would receive mail, then the Ipad left mail after 5 seconds and no mail was received. I tried again and again. I have re set it now 2 times and re installed every thing but it is still the same. Hit mail and it down loads then leaves the app and nothing is down loaded.... any comments?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

Is the iPad maintaining the connection to the router? If your connection is not the problem, and you have done a reset of the iPad, have you done a reset of the router? Power down and power up the router?

Have you told the iPad to delete the email account and manually reentered the account information?

If all of that fails, does the mail account work correctly on another computer? One that is hard-wired, one that is wireless?

This is all just to try and diagnose where the failure is occuring, before saying there is a fault with the iPad mail app. If everything comes out ok except the iPad, then it is time to take it back to an Apple Store if available and have the genius bar check it out.

Hi,
If you have read my thread than you will know my problems. I thought it was solved as for the last 48 hours all my emails on all 3 accounts have been coming though on my iPad and pretty quickly - until today and I am now getting nothing, no emails at all. 2 of them are with ntlworld and the other is with 1and1 so it can't be my ISP.

Everything is working fine on both my main computer and my iPhone where I also have all 3 accounts set up.

I have powered down both the iPad and the router - no difference.

It's as if after a while it resets or does something I can't see which stops my iPad from received emails, it is still able to send emails on all 3 accounts.

Pulling my hair out now and at a loss.

Of interest perhaps, ntlworld was down yesterday and there was not any Internet connection for most of the day. When it came back both my main computer and iPhone functioned as normal.

Any ideas?

Hi, looks like here we go again.

I can well imagine you are pulling your hair out...I am starting to do so even on this side of the pond 🙂

Since your service was down yesterday, it sounds as though something got scrambled when it came back up. You might try Settings > WiFi and reset the network, then reinstall the network information manually. As we have discussed, type in the password information carefully and watch each character that comes up before it turns into a dot.

If your internet connection is stable, then try each email account individually, and as you have done previously, if it does not work, delete and reinstall. Work through each and see it that helps.

The hard part in all of this, I have never had my iPad behave that way...can take it away from the WiFi, sleep, power down, and it always reconnects automatically. Even does that with networks I have been on in the past when taken in their range.

That makes this frustrating...if you continue having problems, consider a visit to your Apple Retail store and have the genius bar people check it out to see it is not faulty.

Just noticed something weird when I went to check all the account settings for the 100th time against my partners iPhone & iPad settings.
On the Server settings she has 'password' checked in Authentication. On mine it has 'MD5 Challenge Response' ticked and when I change it and tap Done, when I go back into it, it has reset to MD5 again. It won't stay as Password.

Could this be the problem.

OK went back to what you said earlier about perhaps because the ISP was down last night it may have muddles some stuff up so deleted all accounts and set them up again. All can currently send and receive though none of them have received any old emails as yet.

Will wait and see what happens tomorrow as it's getting late he so incoming mails will be few.

One other thing, just deleted all the boxes off their test mails, powered off pad and put it back on and all the emails were still in the incoming boxes.

Will check in with you on Monday.

OK what I do know now is that all of my 3 accounts are set up correctly, I can send emails and receive ones but not all emails I am sent and at times I have to press the curled arrow to get any emails but again, there are great chances of emails sent to me which I do get but do on my Mac main computer and on my iPhone.

So, next question, could this be a Fetch versus Push issue? I have 3 ntlworld accounts which I can only set up as Fetch on the iPad, it only gives me the Fetch or Manual option. On my MobileMe account on the iPad I have the Push option?

Just a thought as I want to explore all options before I trash a weekend trawling to my nearest Apple store.
