Lowest latency Firewire audio interface for Logic... which should I choose?

Hi Guys,

I'm about to replace my trusty Yamaha n12 with a dedicated firewire audio interface.

My main requirement is super-low latency for running BFD and other virtual instruments, along with monitoring through Logic directly sometimes (to add effects to vocals in real-time, etc).

I've narrowed down my choice (I think!!) to:
- RME Fireface 800
- Apogee Ensemble
- MOTU 896 Mk3

I have been told that the RME drivers are incredible, and hence it has the lowest latency.

I'd love to hear from other Logic users who own any of the above! What kind of latency do you get (round trip in ms)? What is the lowest buffer setting you can use?

Any downfalls or problems you've had with any of these interfaces?

Thanks heaps guys, can't wait to hear some opinions!

Cheers and thanks,
Mike

Hi James,

I wish someone would!

I'm close to ordering an RME UFX, which has just been released. I have heard the drivers are fantastic and there is talk of buffers as low as 14 samples on Mac with this device.

I've also heard the converters and pres are brilliant.

But if someone did compare and it turned out the MOTU 896 mk3 was still going to deliver lower latency, I'd perhaps go with it afterall.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi, This is a very interesting matter. I could see that nobody mention TC Electronic as a practical interface to be used w/Logic and I was wondering why. I am a song-writer and usually make some voice-over recording in my home studio. No need for 8 simultaneous I/O, but latency became an issue when trying to record my voice (through a Summit Pre) to a 2 guitars, and 3 or 4 software instruments project... Have any of you an advice in order to make an improvement in latency and look for a new interface that could provide such a task... I was thinking about Impact Twin, because of the fx and the Jitter stuff, but now I am not so shure...
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I'm searching for a firewire audio interface.
I would like to know what do you have to say with one of these choices.
I'm looking for something portable, nice pres, low latency, stable drivers, with midi i/o, with good connection options i/o, and under 500$/500€.
What do you think of these?...
- Tc Electronic Impact Twin FW
- Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP FW
- PreSonus FireStudio Mobile
- MOTU Hybrid UltraLite MKIII

thanks in advance,
diogo
