MacBook Pro will not remember my wireless network after sleep

Sorry if this is a repeat question; I'm not all that proficient in all the terms and language everyone uses here, so I may have seen the answer in my search, but just not known what I was reading.

My MBP won't remember my wireless AirPort Extreme Router after coming out of sleep mode. My wife's PC connects to it with no problem every time, but my MBP will not.

I always have to click on "Join Other Network" and fill in the network name and password. Once I do that I connect and operate without any trouble. But it won't reconnect after waking up from sleep mode. It seems to connect to it without any problem when I first start the computer or do a restart, just not when waking up.

It used to remember it without any problem, but sometime back after an update it stopped.

If anyone can assist I would be greatly appreciative.

Thank You.

Thanks Slugfest. The symptom appeared for me when I changed my router's encryption from WEP to WPA2. I followed your instructions, and once I figured out that "Click the - (delete) button" meant clicking on the "-" (minus) button, everything else went smoothly and my MacBook Air now reconnects automatically. Thanks for the "step by step" instructions!

This worked for meexcept I had to restart after #8 and after #10 reorder Preferred Network list.

Thanks!

  1. THIS WORKS:
  2. Go to System Preferences > Network.
  3. Click the Wi-Fi connection.
  4. Click the Advanced... button on the bottom right.
  5. Click the Wi-Fi tab.
  6. Under Preferred Networks, select your wireless network.
  7. Click the - (delete) button.
  8. Turn off your Wi-Fi connection.

8A. RESTART

9. Turn it back on.

10. Select and login to your wireless network. This will re-save your connection underPreferred Networks.

10A. Move my wifi network to top of Preferred Network list

11. Close your laptop and reopen it to test whether it worked.
