No Backlit Keyboard? GLOSSY screen????!!!!!

No thanks, Apple.

Omitting the backlit keyboard was a HUGE mistake on your part. Additionally, the Macbook Air was the last bastion at Apple for those of us who prefer (and rightly so) MATTE finish displays. A glossy display on an ultraportable is like Christmas in July - it just doesn't belong.

I'll be holding out until someone at Apple comes to their senses and re-installs the backlit keyboard. I guess I'll get quite a few more miles with my Rev. C Macbook Air after all......... 8-(

Macbook Air Rev. C, Mac OS X (10.6.4), no backlit keyboard = NO SALE!

Apple is polling owners concerning the next MacBook Air. They never mention the keyboard! User uploaded file

I've been looking very closely at getting a MBA since my black MacBook is going on 5 years old. I currently don't have a backlit keyboard but lately really wish I did. I assumed the new MBA came with the backlit keyboard and had NO IDEA until I went on product page didn't see anything mentioned then googled it and saw that it didn't

Major disappoint for me. I will definitely hold off on getting on and then maybe they will have 3G added as well!

Now if i can just decide if I want an 11 or 13 inch.

I was in the Apple store today looking at them - then found this thread.

Sorry, but is is a big deal. I have a unibody macbook without it, and it is a complete pain in the dark - which my wife like when she watches TV (every night!).

Luxury feature? maybe. Luxury Computer? Definitely!

I would definitely buy one, but not now. Plus, my wife is hesitant to take this one off my hands due to lack of that feature.

It's one thing with the old white computers and keys...entirely different with black keys!

Am really lost by what the heck Apple is doing lately. The new MBP is out, guess what?

- Same exact body as the old one: same weight, same size, same dimensions, same everything.
- Battery life went down from 10 to 7 hours.
- Screen resolution is LOWER than the MBA's 13", they left it at 1280 by 800.
- The 15"+ models are ridiculously expensive, $1800 to $2500
- 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm HDD? No SSD on a 2011 MBP lappy?

All they did is slap me a new CPU, added me a some new high speed port which is barely supported so far, and a new graphic card? Booooooooo.

Wow, now that is putting one heck of a lot of priority on a backlit keyboard. If one appreciates what Apple products bring to the table in total, then it would be very hard to select another brand due to the lack of this particular feature. However, I do understand there could be users who absolutely don't think they could live without the lighted keys ...I guess you must be one of those. For your sake I hope Apple sees fit to offer this capability.

Really don't understand all this hoopla over the backlit keys.
So I'm sitting here at my desk reading this with my Air and it's nearly 11pm. Turn off the light to see if I can type by sight...and guess what I can see the lettering on the keys.
Turn the brightness down to 2...I can still see them.
Turn the brightness down to 1 and I can still see them.
Put the laptop on my lap and re-position the screen...yes I still see them!

The characters on the keys are white and reflect light from the screen (unless you're face is directly over the keyboard). So I don't get it??
