Not all photos showing in screensaver

So far everything has been working great with my new Apple TV except for one thing. I created an iPhoto album with all of my favorite album covers (about 1250 in all) but the screensaver only shows a small subset. As the pics are alphabetical by artist, right now it seems to only be showing "C-E". It wouldn't bother me so much if it changed from time to time but it is always the same subset. Any suggestions?

So, I'm not sure if this will work for any of you or not, but like many of you, my favorite and most used feature of the Apple TV is showing my Favorite photos from iPhoto during the Screen Saver.

Recently, I noticed that the new photos I had flagged from this summer, were not appearing on my Apple TV screensaver.

Although iPhoto would show 375 photos in my Favorites folder (Smart Folder that shows any "Flagged" photos), my AppleTV would only show 240 in the Favorites folder when I went to "Computers > My Library > Photos > Favorites."

For some reason, it seemed that my Apple TV was caching the 240 photos and not updating the new 135 photos.

Since all of my iPhoto events, albums and photos were set to share with my Apple TV from iTunes, I decided to try to turn sharing off and then re-share just my Favorites album.

This was done by going into iTunes (yes, iTunes), under the "Advanced > Choose Photos to Share" menu item, unchecking "Share all photos, albums, Events, and Faces."

Then I checked the box next to "Selected albums, Events and Faces," checked the box for my Favorites folder under "Albums" and pressed "Apply."

Then, I went back into the Apple TV under "Computers > My Library > Photos > Favorites" and noticed that the photo count now showed 375 photos ... the cache was effectively force cleared by choosing to share only the Favorites folder.

Afterwards, I went back into "Advanced > Choose Photos to Share" menu item and checked "Share all photos, albums, Events, and Faces" to share all of my photos again and after I went back into Apple TV, it still showed the new folder count for my Favorites folder. Yay!

The final step was re-setting my Screen Saver to select my Favorites folder again, the "loading" icon started spinning as the photo cache was presumably reset/rebuilt, and then I selected "Preview" in the Screen Saver settings again.

Voila, all of my 375 Favorite folder photos are now appearing on my Apple TV!

Good luck, I hope this works for everyone else who is having trouble, and I hope that Apple fixes this caching issue.

This is happening to me, but I have a slightly different set up.

I'm using the Apple TV gen 3 device, and I've used iTunes on my laptop to share photos from a specific folder in my Pictures folder. There are 4000 photos in there in 14 different sub-folders.

On the ATV, I can set the screen saver to use the photos shared by my laptop, but I only get a subset of the photos. If I re-select the source of the photos on the ATV, it reloads a different set of photos, but if I don't do that, I get a random rotation of a small subset of the 4000 photos available.

Does anybody have a fix or a workaround for this? Or perhaps an explanation?

For what its worth, I recently switched all three of my Apple TV's to reference a new "Favorites" folder I created in Photo Stream from my iPhone. Now, instead of having to go into iTunes on my iMac and add photos to my Favorites folder on my computer, I can simply add a new photo to the Photo Stream "Favorites" folder and not only will it sync between devices, but it also appears on the Apple TV's. I haven't had any caching issues like I used to have and the bonus is that I can update the Apple TV's from my mobile devices, so its much more convenient. Hope this helps some of you out there and good luck with your photo issues.

Yes, believe it or not this has NOT been solved and shame on Apple for ignoring this.

Several get-together's later, of friends/family complaining about the repeat pictures (to which I didn't believe due to the 2600 images I had loaded to share with apple tv), I finally researched is and this issue, to my shock, has not been resolved and completely ignored by apple.

I am embarrassed actually.

My RESOLUTION!!!.. here it is.

I took my 2600 pictures, set up in aperture, right click: new / slideshow. Let those load. Go to the music tab, select your playlist (in my case i choose a patsy cline mix from genius). Wait for it...

Export... Wait...

In my case, unfortunately, it was a floater at +136GB! Less than 720p is unacceptable in this house!

Import to iTunes and play as you would a movie on AppleTV through a shared computer on your LAN.

Well I smoked a lil less last night and found that this entire thread is because we all are using the Apple TV wrong. (did someone already post that?)

The issues is our using the screensaver funtion instead of going into computer / photos / and then selecting an album with music, if desired... setting all other parameters and hitting start.

Done and done.

So to recap, DONT USE SCREENSAVER if you want to showcase thousands of pictures while music is playing. The screensaver is just a basic cache. USE SLIDESHOW in photos on the Apple TV.

What is the size of the cache in screensaver? Ie how many photo's (approx) can it hold? I have less than 1,000 photo's but it is repeating (at the same time) photo's and not updating newly added photo's.

I use screensaver as my priority is to select the music and the photo's are randomly added. If I use slideshow, will that make the photo's a priority and how do I choose the music to accompany?

Thank you, BG

But if I use the slideshow, won't I have to leave the computer that the photos are on up and running with iTunes? I'm trying to avoid that. My music and movies are on a PC desktop, but my photos are on a MacBoook Pro. I would hate to have to have both up and running 😟. I guess I'll submit to Apple and see if they would at least tell us how many photos can be used in the screensaver.

Thanks for the workaround!!

I have Apple TV 3 and only have 185 photos to use for screensaver. The screensaver shows I have 185 photos; however, only some of them are showing randomly. It is not like they choose the first 50 photos and keep looping them. This is very frustrating to see this issue has been ongoing since 2010 and still not solution. Apple please come up with a fix for this issue. This is a great feature to use while entertaining, but it is not one you would want to use as no one wants to see the same photos over and over especially when you have selected more than just a portion of what is showing. UGH!
