Problem logging into FaceTime for Mac

For some reason, Im unable to login with my AppleID. After the information is entered into the ID and password block, it sits at "Signing In" and goes no further. Ive reinstalled the app with no luck. I have basic WEP security on the home network but I have not experimented with changing these settings. Anyone else run into the issue where it just wont log in?

Ive also created a new AppleID account through the FaceTime app, but it still wont log in with that account.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 4, iPad 16gb

I have found the solution in other forum. It seems the solution works for everyone.
Here is the solution:

1. Go to System Preferences -> Network
2. Click on the connection you are using now.
3. Click Advanced
4. Switch to DNS tab.
5. Click the + sign under DNS servers
6. Add 8.8.8.8
7. Add 8.8.4.4

Same problem at one location on laptop- But the same account wrks at another office on different MacPro - Me thinks it may have to do with my ISP...?

This (DNS Solution) did not work for me. Neither did switching networks, switching to ethernet, switching to different wi-fi, or using my iPhone's connection. I've tried every variation of my account: @me.com, @mac.com, username only, and even two different alternate accounts. I've also tried deleting and re-installing, editing plists, and creating a new network on a nearby computer. I've also created new location in my preferences, still nothing but the spinning "signing in..." I'm out of ideas.

hey guys
had the same problem. you have to make sure there is NO firewall enabled when doing facetime. This applies for iphone AND mac computers. hope this helps.

Face time is no longer in beta and I am having the same problem. Log-in fine on iMac but no such luck on MacBook Pro. Keep getting the "check net-work connection" error message. Any new suggestions?

There seems to be a problem with users host file that is causing an issue for FaceTime. This solved the problem in my cadse. Hope it helps.

Hi all,

I feel your pain! This worked for me and it's painless to try:-

1. Go to System Preferences -> Network

Here's that fix for Windows.

How to fix Facetime on Vonage Router:

You need to add these to addresses (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) to the DNS Settings

Here’s how in Windows 7

Go to Local Area Connection, then Rightclick and choose properties.

Then, select the Internet ProtocolVersion 4:

Then, click properties and enter the DNSaddresses:

That should fix it.

Thank you so much! This worked perfectly, after I re-read and did EXACTLY what you wrote. Just got a new MacBook Pro, and this feature was not working. Thanks again!
