Unable to sign in on Facetime

Okay, I tried to sign up using my apple ID. It then took me to the page that says my email needs to be verified (but I'm wondering why it needs to if I use it almost everyday for iTunes). So, after a couple tries, I verify my account but Facetime keeps spinning saying "verifying account...". Five minutes later it said the same thing so I quit it and opened it up again to try to sign in again. I do so, but now it is saying "Face Time Activation - Unable to verify email because it is already in use".

What does this exactly mean? I should be able to log in through my apple ID just like I do on iTunes.
Please help!!!

OK, I just solved my problem and I believe it will help to others who has same problem with FaceTime sign in indefinite loop. Here is what I did, very simple:

Go into your home user folder / Library / LaunchAgents and delete the com.apple.imagent.plist file

Make sure that you empty your Trash afterwards.

Next step is... in case you have Little Snitch installed, make sure apsd-ft has full access to the network. It must access your 5223 TCP port in order to work fine.

Hope this will help some others with same issue.

I did not open any ports. What I did is updated my Little Snitch Rules list in the way I erased everything and updated my app rules one by one. When FaceTime asked me to allow apsd-ft that's exactly what I did. Inside the Little Snitch pop-up window (notification message), it was mentioned FaceTime has to access network through port 5223 TCP.

You don't have to open anything, you just have to let Little Snitch allow FaceTime and its apsd-ft have access to network.

EDIT: I don't have TimeCapsule, so I can't help you there... it could be you have TimeCapsule caused problem, meaning you'll have to ask someone who got his/her FaceTime working with same configuration you're running on your end.

First link did not help since I never got that error message. My email was always fine, and I have only one Apple ID anyway.
Second link is showing which ports to forward in order to make FaceTime work. I'll repeat (I posted about it in another forum), I tried doing it and it did not help at all. Reason? You can open as many ports as you want, and if you have that program blocked by Little Snitch, nothing will help it connect to the network. That's what I had to do in order to get this FaceTime working and it works now.

Also, there is a lot of people even in this forum, who never even customized their router (left it with default settings without opening extra ports), and FaceTime worked right away for them. So I don't believe opening those ports is the ultimate solution. At least in my case, it did not help first time when I tried it. Even now, when my FaceTime works great, all those ports are not just closed, but completely stealth. All I had to do is, allow FaceTime app access the network through Little Snitch.

Time Capsule is nothing more than an Airport extreme with a built-in hard disk. It is my router that attaches directly to the DSL box. So, I went to AiPort Utility and opened all the ports that tech article suggested, and it still freezes when I try to log in, after a long laborious startup that maxes my fan, and slows down my system - like FaceTime is taxing every single resource on the MacBook. Time to call Apple support and get my $.99 worth of service! LOL

I'm really sorry to hear that. I really wish I could help, but I am speechless at this point. I know how frustrating is to have an app you wish work fine, and it doesn't... especially simple app like FaceTime... it should work out of the box for everybody, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Yes, I believe it is a good thing to give Apple a call. Let's see what they have to sat about your specific problem. I am also interested to hear about it. Please, come back and let us know what did they say if it's not of a big trouble for you.

After 7 months Apple finally resolved my Mobile Me problem. Lost a lot of contacts, but hey it's working again. Once MobileMe problem was resolved FaceTime finally launched and worked properly. Evidently the same duplication of contacts was causing as big a problem as it was for MobileMe (I went from 1,600 contacts to over 16,000). FaceTime works perfectly now with no other issues. Obviously FaceTime relies on the contact database to initialize, if there's a problem with your contacts, then it might create a similar problem. Hope this helps someone else ...
