iTunes automatically starts playing when I get in my car
Is there a way to stop it from doing that? Its draining my battery.
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I've been working around this forever. As soon as I start the car, iTunes automatically starts playing the first song, which starts with "AA." Now that the new software has obliterated the list function in iTunes, making it infuriating, I got fed up and downloaded a different player. But iTunes STILL starts playing the "AA" song no matter if I have the other player keyed up or not. It just pauses the other player and plays the "AA" song as if nothing happened.
I spent most of yesterday on forums looking for an answer, and learned there is apparently no box to click to put a stop to this. Which is insulting. So I implemented every single tip I found online. Nothing worked.
I have finally had enough. Here's my new work-around -- I downloaded a blank mp3 from this site:
http://www.xamuel.com/blank-mp3s/
I put it on my laptop and renamed it "AAAAH" and synced my phone so that it becomes the first song. iTunes merrily begins playing that blank mp3 every single time I start the car, and I have a full minute to wrestle with the new interface and start my other player like I wanted to in the first place.
This is obviously not a fix, but until (if) they give us a way to disable iTunes, this is the best I can come up with. My husband suggested I post this in case it can help someone else. And as long as the Finnish don't step up their game and invent words that start with five "A"s, I think this will last me a while.
It's not a perfect solution but the menu settings in the vehicle have an option for autoplay that you'll need to turn offi. I write not a perfect solution because in addition to my iPhone I keep an iPod in the vehicle (USB device) specifically for music. The Autoplay function applies to both USB and Bluetooth devices as opposed to being device specific. The choice is to restart the iPod playback every time the car is started or to have the battery depletion that comes from having the iPhone automatically put in the play mode.
Me too
what to do?
I THINK I FINALLY FOUND A FIX!!!
I have been working on this for two weeks and I think I finally got it fixed!!
I had read all over the internet, all kinds of sites, nothing. Finally, I decided it was time to go back to basics and (gulp) read the SYNC handbook that came with the truck.. I found a statement in there that talks about the "Primary Phone" feature and that the vehicle basically sets a priority on connecting THAT PHONE at every off/on ignition cycle... I also remembered that when I drive my wife's C-MAX, where my phone is NOT the primary phone, and when the wife doesn't have her phone in range (primary phone for hers), my phone connects as a hands-free phone... So I thought maybe if my phone wasn't set as primary, SYNC may play my USB like in the past, but still connect to my phone as a secondary... Soooo,
I hope this helps someone as much as it has helped me!!
Here is the best solution I have found:
(*) For your car there isn't much that can be done until Apple stops being so arrogant and actually adds the items we need, like email attachments, stopping BT auto-play, Adding MANY needed features to maps, etc.
(*) BUT there is a solution for your Bluetooth headset!! When finishing a call use the end call button on the phone. This does not allow the music to play. If you end the call by using the end call button on the BT headset then the iPhone automatically starts playing.
I Have a VW Jetta TDI. After several annoying months, I realized the control was in my car, not my phone. I hit "setup" then "media," and unchecked the "BT-audio auto play" box. This seems to have done the trick for me. I wish Apple would respond to this instead of just ignoring it, though. Even if it's not a defect with their system, it's causing their users a lot of grief.
