Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

How do you name a new event?

After I synched my iPhone, it auto split the events but I can't work out how to name them. They have a title "unnamed event", in older iPhoto you'd click on that to let it enter a name. Now it seems not to be an entry field.

I went to Events but the new "unnamed event" do not appear?

Any suggestions?

A lot... MacBook, MacMini, etc, Mac OS X (10.6.4), one of everything

I'm having the same problem: naming new events after an import. Because the new event is not listed with the other events, the suggesting to double click on the "unnamed event" label doesn't do anything. The video in the help area suggests you have to highlight all the photos you want in one event, drag them on top of one another..... It doesn't work. It doesn't make sense. Why would they change what used to be a very simple process of importing and naming events?

Old Toad is correct. Go to Events in your Library (not full screen, so you can see the Library listings), and be sure to scroll all the way down to see the last event which should have either "Untitled Event" as the title, or perhaps the date.

Click on that and you'll be able to type in the name of your Event.

It was easier in iPhoto '09, because there were several ways of doing it.

These suggestions are not working for me at all. I have spent over 30 minutes trying to name new imports . This is ridiculous. My import was autosplit into three different events. Following Old Toad's instructions I finally got the first event named. But when I try to name the second event, nada! I can select the 4 photos in that event, then go into Events mode, but none of the new imports show up in my library at that point. ipHoto just reverts back to the whole library and in that mode, the new imports do not show up.
Why did they have to make something that was so simple now so difficult?
So far, I hate everything about iPhoto 11.
This is my third session with it and everything is harder and more time- consuming than it used to be. I started my annual Christmas card, and the template I loved has disappeared. Furthermore I had to wait, ad nauseum, as all the templates scrolled by slooowly only to find I had lost last year's cool template. I just get more and more disappointed with this software each time I sit down and try to work with it.

This suggestion worked, but I discovered that the last import was not at the end of my events list but rather at the top. So it took me a little while to find it. When I did, as Old Toad says, you can name the event by clicking on the title bar for it.

It seems that with iPhone 11 Apple has taken a step backward. I find it much less intuitive to use. Or, maybe because I'm such an old dog, I can't learn any new tricks.

Oh I have to disagree. It's just that it takes us longer, requires more concentration and, most importantly, requires a couple of drinks to lubricate/stimulate our neural networks to get our brain parts linked and talking together again.

But it would be nice if there would be a "What's changed" document that came with these upgrades.

None of the suggestions I found here in the forum have worked for me and I am still sitting with my "last import" with no title.
I hate this *iPhoto 11.*
Called my Apple store and they said that I could return it for refund within 14 days.
Then I realized that of course *iPhoto 11* has overwritten my *iPhoto 08* and I had arrived version 08 by upgrading in stages. I don't have a CD with that because my iMac, new in 06, came with *iPhoto 06* already installed, so I never did have iPhoto on a CD....until version 11! I could buy 06 on eBay, no problem, but you can imagine how teed off at Apple I am. I'm not wanting to shell out real $$ for something that I had on my computer last week. I'm mad at myself because I broke my own rule of never buying the first issue of something brand new.

I also discovered that the lovely templates that I used to make books and cards last year have disappeared in *iPhoto 11*. Even worse, the new templates are presented in a carousel and one has to scroll through the whole carousel to find a template. And nothing comes close to the one I used for holiday cards last year.
I also think this version of iPhoto is waaayy slower than 08. Very frustrating. Grrr!
I am one very unhappy camper right now. I have spent hours on this software and every hour that goes by, I hate it more.
Sorry for venting but only other users of iPhoto would "get" the frustration.

*vent over!*

1. My +"Last Import"+ shows up with that title. Cannot change it with either a single or double click. (I tried under Recent, and I tried in its Title bar.
2. When I switch to "Events" mode, the "+last import+" does not show up in "Events" so there is no joy there.
3. The latest +"last import"+ is not showing up in Photos either.
4. I have 2 earlier imports that I had not named before I installed *iPhoto 11*, and I am unable to name them either. They are sitting looking like 2 unnamed Events but are found only when I click on Photos. BUT---they do not show up when I click on the Events. Go figure.

All of this mystifies me. Didn't Apple test drive this sucker before they released it?
Titling imports is often the first thing that I do when I am working with iPhoto. Surely this action should have been one of the first things that should have been checked out, and made "goof proof" by Apple when they were preparing to release the application.

None of this happened with *iPhoto 08*.
(Never had any trouble with it at all. )

If anyone has any further ideas for me to try, please post them.
Thanks in advance!

BTW, is there a way to preview one's message on this board?

*Old Toad*, thank you for trying to help me. I tried to follow your instructions, but this was the message that I got when trying to "disable" the Helvetica Neue font. (I couldn't find anything closer to "deactivate" than "disable.")

+"The current selection contains protected fonts, which cannot be disabled. Please de-select these fonts and try again."+

So, even tho I tried several different ways to disable the font, I didn't even complete step 2 of your instructions. 😟
Now what?
