Hi,
I just installed imovie 11 but now, every time i launch it, i see the color wheel and Imovie doesn't respond. After 5 minutes, the app quit unexpectedly. Any ideas? Thanks for your help...

I had the same problem with crashing as soon as I wanted to import a movie. My fix which completely took care of the problem, was to create a folder and then move all other files into that one (could just be temporarily), so that I was left with only the folder with the movies that I wanted to import and the temporary folder with all the other stuff.

The movies that I wanted to import were on my desktop, but so were a ton of other files and what not. Had I know which other file was giving me the trouble, I could probably just move that one file into a folder or off the desktop and be rid of the trouble.

Hope this may help someone else too.

Hey all,

The solution for me was to clear my destop. More than likely you just need to clear off any movie's from the desktop, including footage. When I was in a hurry I simply created a temporary folder sitting on the desktop into which I moved everything. Then I could import my footage and continue iMovie with no further issues.

Hope this can help others too.

I tried that on mine. I also tried cleaing the desktop. Issue persisted.

I went to the Apple store. After 1 hour of troubleshooting, the tech guy figured out that imovie crashes when I speed clips that weren't taken with the iphone (taken either by my Canon Elf or my friend's Fuji).

There may be a workaround with converting the avi. files to .mov before inserting them in imovie, but if I keep them at normal speed (as avi.) or slow, imovie seems to work.

iMovie 11 was hanging up on me when starting up.

Basically, "Not Responding." I used the Activity Monitor to track down the issue and by clicking on the information buttonâ„ą to "see information about selected process" I was able to "sample" and see where the issue was. The problem was in it hanging up on this "/Users/~~YOUR USER NAME~~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data"

This solved my problem,

  1. Make sure all applications including iMovie are closed.
  2. Go to the "Containers" folder under your user account in "Library"...here is where you should find it... /Users/~~YOUR USER NAME~~/Library/Containers"
  3. Delete the folder "com.apple.iMovieApp"
  4. Try relaunching iMovie 11 and if that was your problem then it will start up just fine.
  5. Enjoy!🙂
