iLife '11 failed installation

I installed the family pack on all my Macs which included Macbooks and MAc g5's without a hitch.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I was able to install some of the iLife applications through clicking "Customize" on the Install Type window.

There seems to be disk errors on my DVD in both the iDVD application and the Sounds and Jingles bundle. Those two bundles failed installing.

I will call Apple Support after the holidays and see if they can ship me a new DVD.

I have been having the same problem..Apple Care had me do the same things you have done. Next time I talk to apple Care I will ask for a new DVD.

Unfortunately I bought iLife 11, too - BEFORE reading this post. Can't install iPhoto...etc.
A lesson for me, never ever will I install any Apple Software/Update before checking the net. It seems this company is using their customers as guinea pigs to do their job!

Looks like they sent me a bad disk. Installation failed and create disk image failed.
Called Apple and they are sending me a new Installation Disk.

Fingers crossed.

On examination, my install disk has some unusual looking grooves on its business side. Like tracks on an old vinyl record. I'm no expert, but I've never seen that before and it looks like a defect.

I have the same trouble!

Repair my Hd permissions and install again doesn't work for me.

When I check DVD with Disk Utility the message was = disk corrupted.

I will try make a image disk and reinstall.

I bought iLife 11 and Snow Leopard. I received 2 iLife 11 (dont know why 🙂 But the 2 discs are corrupted!

I have two iMacs, very similar in their config and installed SW.

2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - OPTIARC Superdrive

1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Matshita Superdrive

Newer iMac would not install iLife '11 (family pack) from the Install DVD (the prob mentioned most often in this thread'...contact the SW Mfr', etc.). Tried all the suggestions on this and other threads - permissions, Safe Mode, etc., (with exception of trashing the Java folder - sounded too much like wishful Ju-Ju to me).

In desperation, went to the older iMac and iLife '11 installed on the 1st attempt. Used disk utilility to make a Disk Image, file sharing to move it to the newer iMac, and did a full install on the newer iMac with no problem. Disk Util on the newer iMac detected multiple problems with the Install DVD, whereas Disk Utility did NOT detect anything wrong with the Install DVD on the older iMac.

This answer's nothing - just adds more variables to the problem, but it may indicate that different makes of the Superdrive may be "fussy", for lack of a better word. The Superdrive in the newer iMac has been regularly used to make Audio and Data CDs, as well as movie and photo DVDs, just last week. It has never 'hiccupped' until meeting the iLife '11 Install DVD.

I'd say Apple still has a problem they need to address.

Me too. It does not get all the way through the installation process with ilife 11. Here are the messages from the console app install.log. The very last message being:

Update to my May 7 2011 post:

Received a replacement DVD from Apple, and whereas I'd managed an install of iLife 11 by making and moving a 'disk image', I did not make an attempt to install from the new DVD, however I put it under scrutiny of Disk Utility more than once and it passed with flying colors.

With no other testing means available, it seems to points to compatibility differences between different makers of SuperDrives and optical media. That's my best guess, anyway.

As a side note, the SuperDrive in the iMac I was having trouble installing iLife 11 on, has since successfully burned a couple of DVD projects..., so! 😕

I called Apple, got in touch with I-life support. They asked me a couple questions about my system, had me insert another DVD to verify my Superdrive was working, then agreed to ship me a new i-life disk! Very easy and helpful.
