new 11 inch macbook air not waking from sleep

A beautiful machine. When it is idol for a few hours, it does not wake up from sleep or a black screen or whatever mode it slips into when not being used.

Tried everything and nothing works to wake it up. No apple lite on on the outside of the screen either.

No option but to force quit and restart that way, and it keeps sending huge failure messages back to apple.

Any clues?

Apple has no clue, they claim. Some are reporting a possible flaw with the logic board. What brings a machine out of sleep? The lid/screen when lifted? I don't know. I deeply regret to have to say I sent it back to Apple for a refund...the first time since I have been with apple and that has been a very long time.

My gut feeling tells me an exchange will not fix this matter. It appears to be more than random. So, when the refund is in place, it is back to a 13 inch macbook pro for me. I know those work.

The air is a delightful and beautifully designed machine, but what anyone wants over looks is for a computer to work and work well out of the box, especially those migrating over from windows machines.

Perhaps another day...I will pick one up again.

I just had the same problem. I closed the lid on my MacBook Air 11 inch last night. This morning I open it and the screen is black (i.e. it's not waking up). I pressed the power button once. Nothing (I'm guessing this shut it down). I press it again for 3 seconds. The computer boots but it's a new session (all the apps that were open last night are closed).

The issues described on the article are a little different from mine.

I have the same problem here, and I think, after a certain amount of time, the macbook air doesn't wake up, even worse, if it's on battery, it drains totally the battery.
When this happens, I know it before opening the lid because my macbook air is warm, so it never went to sleep but like stayed awake screen off and drained all the battery.

that really *****, I'll bring it back for a refund to the applestore if they don't find a solution fast !

I have an intermittent problem where the screen comes on after opening the lid after the machine has been in standby (i.e. closed more than an hour), but it is stuck on the image of the screen as it was when the lid was closed - i.e. the time/date shows that time. However, the machine is hung and unresponsive underneath. I need to hard reset.

It seems to be OK when waking from sleep, i.e. when I open the screen within an hour of closing it - prior to the machine going into standby. Will see a Genius this week at my local Apple store and report...

I'm having the same problem with my 13" MBA. Since I keep the sound off usually I can't even tell if the danged thing is starting up or shutting down or doing nothing. Usually it will turn back on [without a crash, without a restart] if I plug the laptop in, but otherwise nothing I can do will revive it.

I live too far from a store to bring it in. I'll let you know what the tech says when I call them.
