I cannot purchase or rent anything from the iTunes store due to a "network connection" issue. I called the my support rep who actually had the same issue, and suggested asking in this forum. Is the iTunes Store capacity down? When will it be back up? Can I do anything to fix it on my end?
Similar problem today (31st) for me, with one weird twist to it:
I'd previously today downloaded several podcasts (which may not have gone through the iTMS), including a couple of video podcasts, plus updates for 3 or so apps for my iPod Touch. Then wanted to check on what if any free music downloads there were (those I have to download using the iPT, since I'm using iTunes 8.2.1 on my PowerBook 2000), but I couldn't even go from the App Store page (which I had successfully been to earlier) to the iTMS homepage!
Then when I tried to connect (using the same WiFi network at the restaurant where I was) using my iPod Touch, it went through fine(!?). What's with that? If it works for the one, it should work for the other, I would expect.
That, or Apple's trying to 'nudge' me into buying a new system (not this year, and likely not even in 2011)...
I hate to say it! But I'm glad Im not the only one with this problem. I Cannot seem to download any updates from iTunes on my computer. Keeps telling me to click Store > Check for available downloads.
When I do that, it gives me an error "The iTunes store is temporary unavailable".
I have had this problem before. It was years ago and I had to download the latest version of itunes. I haven't done so in a few years so I went ahead and downloaded itunes 10 and I can now access the store and make purchases. The download takes several minutes (at least 5) and it automatically replaces your already existing itunes. Very easy
"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
I thought downloading the newest version of iTunes (iTunes 10.0.1) would fix it, but it didn't change anything. This is very upsetting, Apple has had more than enough time to solve the problem by now. I can only imagine how much money has been lost just in the hours that it's been down... Hopefully it'll be back up and running soon.
I'm having the same issue here in Brazil since Friday.
Curious thing it is I can't connect to iTunes Store in my house but I can do it in my office.
Both are different ISPs
Haven't been able to access the iTunes store since Tuesday morning, 11/02/10. Rebuilt permissions, ran a diagnostic on Keychain, and updated iTunes to v9.2.1. No help and seems odd. We have a second computer (ibook G4) running the same OS and the same version of iTunes and it can access the iTunes Store with no problems.
Still no joy.
Called my ISP and they were unable to connect too.
So, after one week trying to figure out what is wrong, I believe that in my case it's a server side issue. Maybe Apple changed some DNS configuration that wasn't replicated to all ISPs.
Anyway...just a guess.
Ok, So I have my situation resolved and it was fairly easy. Contact Apple Support via phone call or email (I did mine via 3 email exchanges) and tell them there is an issue with your iTunes account and you cannot download what is on cue. They might tell you it's your firewall but let them know other computers in the house work. Let them then know that you have seen other peoples issues get resolved via them, resetting your iTunes account download cue. I did this and within a minute, my problems disappeared. They do have the power reset your account downloads and everything is back to normal now.
the itunes store is constantly having connection problems from my mac. my thought is that there isn't enough capacity for everyone to use it as much as we would like, but I could be wrong...
Are they still down? I purchased a movie two hours ago and still can not get it to play? Sent support a note I will see what they say. If it won't play I would think I should see my refund then. Anyone else?
