Having to hold my power button in for an extremely long time

hi i just got my macbook pro about two months ago and have been using it daily for my general tasks such as photoshop for uni and word, internet browsing so on and so on. i generally leave my mac turned of and plugged in and simply close the lid when I'm done. I came to turn my mac off the other day and when it came to turning it back on i had to hold the power button down for nearly 20 seconds before it started to boo, now my mac is behaving this way every time i turn it on.
any help?

I'm confused. Are you saying you shut off the MBP by closing the lid? Well, that is incorrect. It just puts the MBP to sleep. If you want to shut down, you have to go to Apple Menu>Shut Down.

To wake up the computer, all you need to do is hit a key or the mouse/trackpad button. Holding the power button, shuts it down in a manner that might damage your drive. Don't do it that way.

Sometimes, there is a significant delay (maybe 20-60 seconds) from pushing the key to actually waking up. Only sometimes, and for me it's what's software is open when I do it.

Honestly, your power button should be used once....to turn on the computer. All other activities are OS controlled. Rarely, and I mean very rarely, you might need to hold the power button to restart after a crash or kernel panic.

In other words, stop using the power button to wake from sleep.
