Video Always Pixelated???

I have a cannon hf11 which takes very good HD video at 30fps. clear and beautiful. Everytime, and i mean everytime i import into imovie the video is highly degraded to point it looks like vhs quality. I usually record in 1080p and import full size. everything is just very pixelated and looks horrible, not what i would expect from an HD camera and ilife. black colors are especially pixelated. Should i be using a different method to import, should i should be shooting in something different than 1080p? I have never had a clean looking video. I can hook the camera directly to the tv and it looks great. when i import using full size the images look so terrible. looks cheap. Help??

What I've found is that this is not an exporting problem but an importing problem. iMovie being a simple program is not set up to important complex video. There is a simple way to fix this though. Go to preferances and video and there is an option to import videos at full or at large. Choose the large option and this should fix the pixalation problem. It obviously won't be the full original size but it will be still high quality and it will look more high quality.

Well...I THOUGHT this would me, but it didn't. We've been using imovie for several years. Previously we've had no problem. The video quality and sound was just fine. But now, using the SAME camera and the same imovie program, we're dealing with the horribly pixelated videos. What happened? Why the change?

My teens write and film shorts as a hobby and now their creativity is being stymied!

I did check imovie "preferences", but there are no options relating to "import". All I have in imovie is "slo-mo clips", "photo placement", "clip duration", "transitions". and "theater". I have imovie 10.1
