Opening Unix executable documents on my Mac

I have a new iMac os v 10.6. I recently received some documents on a CD that has an icon indicating it is a UNIX executable file. (black icon with green letters in the top right that says 'exec'. Is there a way I can open these documents on my Mac?

Hi.
I'll use this topic instead of opening a new one, since I have the same problem...

I got a DVD, it is supposed to work on both PC and Mac. If I open it I find (among other files) a .exe file named START_WIN and a file named START_MAC whose icon is the black rectangle with the "exec" written in green. If double-clicked, the Terminal says "cannot execute binary file" and nothing happens. How should I open this file???

I just got .trm files on a CD from a court. They are audio of oral arguments before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in the USA. The instructions say to download "TheRecord Player 5.4" from www.ftrgold.com, an Australian company that appears to disdain OS X and Linux, supporting only Windows.

So, with this bit of added information, can anyone point me to an audio player for the Mac that can handle .trm audio files, or a separate program that can convert them to a usable codec?

I had this same problem yesterday. I had old Claris Works files and Apple Works Files dating back to 1995 on floppy discs and I needed to save them to my current computer. Nothing would open them. I found this software:

http://www.libreoffice.org/

The software works like a charm! It opened up the file and I was able to save it to Word. It was very fast and easy. They ask for a donation on the website, but I think the download works even if you don't give a donation. The software works so well to convert the files that I didn't mind giving them some money. I had tried everything else and Libre Office was the only thing that worked for me.
