Delete photos from iPhone after import

I cannot figure out a way to delete photos from my iPhone after successfully importing them into my Aperture 3 library. This is crazy. Why isn't there a way to delete them other than:

a. going into my iPhone and selecting them one by one and deleting.

b. importing into Aperture, then importing into iPhoto, then delete and eject card when prompted, then delete the new album out of iPhoto.

c. import from image capture every time and have image capture delete after import

I can't think of a reason that this has been excluded from Aperture and even Aperture 3 still doesn't have it. I understand that there are proper ways to reformat a memory card after importing, but iPhone for example doesn't have it's own way of doing that. Please please somebody help. I love Aperture. This however is crazy to me. Why doesn't Aperture support 'delete and eject card'? Even the manual says it is supported. Please help thank you.

Perhaps you can create an AppleScript to run when the import is complete. You can select the Action in the import settings to have it run automatically.

I was super annoyed by this too, but I found a solution. Go into Image Capture when your phone is connected and select it from the source list on the left. At the bottom you'll see a set of options, including which program should open when you connect this device. There you will find a checkbox to delete photos after import. Once I checked this box the deletions happened automatically next time I connected to aperture and imported the photos.

Here is a post I made on a recent similar thread:

After importing iPhone photos in Aperture, I use the Image Capture application that comes with every Mac to delete photos from the Camera Roll on the phone. It is really simple to use. Just start the application, select the the iPhone in the left window, select all of the photos (or just the ones you want to delete) and click the Delete button at the bottom of the window. It is a great way to quickly clear photos in bulk from you iPhone Camera Roll!

Yes, this is just ludicrous.

I bought Aperture because iPhoto stopped working after I upgraded to osx 10.7 and I could not bring myself to pay for the new iPhoto with all its limitations just to have the software work the way it's supposed to, nor was i willing to waste precious time trying ot get iritating bugs fixed. Now like everyone else here I wasted time just to be able to do what the cheaper iPhoto does automatically. My first experience with aperture is to wonder why I paid so much for little, ... every day it is getting harder to distinguish apple from microsoft.

I disagree. We frequently see variants of "Aperture lost my images" in posts here.

IMO automated "delete after import from camera/card" is almost always bad workflow in any kind of pro workflow. The reason being that image files have not yet been backed up. Some folks (not me) may consider iPhone pix to be low value, but Aperture remains a pro app and as such I encourage the Apple team to avoid facilitating automated processes that put un-backed-up images at risk.
