Delete photos from iPhone after import

I cannot figure out a way to delete photos from my iPhone after successfully importing them into my Aperture 3 library. This is crazy. Why isn't there a way to delete them other than:

a. going into my iPhone and selecting them one by one and deleting.

b. importing into Aperture, then importing into iPhoto, then delete and eject card when prompted, then delete the new album out of iPhoto.

c. import from image capture every time and have image capture delete after import

I can't think of a reason that this has been excluded from Aperture and even Aperture 3 still doesn't have it. I understand that there are proper ways to reformat a memory card after importing, but iPhone for example doesn't have it's own way of doing that. Please please somebody help. I love Aperture. This however is crazy to me. Why doesn't Aperture support 'delete and eject card'? Even the manual says it is supported. Please help thank you.

Perhaps you can create an AppleScript to run when the import is complete. You can select the Action in the import settings to have it run automatically.

1) I am the original all apple fan boy, and everyone in my circles knows it. I'm the guy they come to for help, and I'm the guy they make fun of when anyone mentions any other product other than Apple. I'm a highoy visiable public figure, & EVERYONE knows I love Apple. I use my Apple products for EVERYTHING!!!! in my life.

2) I'm glad you wrote this. I have become one of those who has been inappropriate.

That said, I've thought about it, and personally, to sum it up ... my frustration has come from a place where I feel like I can not trust them any more. I find myself getting more ****** off at programing that should have thought of, at the lack of responsibility taken, and the lack of integrity that seems to be slipping ever so slowly away.

Just wanted to through that out there, and because of your reminder, I'm going to tone it down and be a more creative and positive voice instead of the over bearing one I have turned into.

thanks

jessluke, you add absolutely nothing but nonesense (or worse, rambling nonensense) to these posts. I'm not sure if you reply to random posts in random thread, but my inbox is littered with "doesn't work", "did you get an answer?", "This is ********!!!!!\", 'Got to ****!". with no reference to what you are talking about or referring to. Beligerent nonsense which adds nothing to the community discussions. Go away.

FIXED!

Good grief, why is this so obscure, and why hasn't Apple made it clear? Call out jesseluke if you like, but I agree with him. I really, really am getting tired of shinola like this.

The solution: Launch Image Capture. In the extreme bottom left corner there's a little box with a downward pointing triangle in it. Click on it. Choose Aperture, and tick the box underneath it that says "Delete after import." Close Image Capture.

Now Aperture pops up the same "Do you want too delete..." dialog box that iPhoto does.

How many of us have spent how many hours struggling with this, when the solution was there all along, albeit a poor one? #$%^&*

I'm not a geek by any stretch but as near as I can tell, the problem deleting photos from iphone is tied to the Photo Stream. As soon as I turned it off I was able to go through my photo library on the phone and delete collections by selecting them and deleting them. This allowed me to take pictures again. But my storage still said I had over 9gigs used so I clicked on the icon at the bottom right that said albums and it had a selection for recently deleted which I deleted also. After that all my storage was renewed and I was able to finally update my phone and take pictures. What a pain. Its stuff like this that makes it hard to defend Iphone and Apple products to the herd of naysayers out there.

Hi.... I have an iPhone 6+ and to my great dismay I realized that the "Image Capture" program no longer deletes images once they are downloaded off the iPhone even though the arrow "Delete Photos After Import" is checked. I can't use the Aperture toggle as I have not had Aperture loaded in years. I was able to do this by then downloading all my iPhone photos into iPhoto which then allowed me to delete after import.

I believe Image Capture no longer works because IOS8 split the photos into subcategories on the phone and Image Capture's delete function no longer sees the photos to delete them.

Anyone else come up with anything?

I suspect, you enabled the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iPhone. Then deleting after import will no longer work, because the images are actually in iCloud and you cannot delete from iCloud this way. Either disable iCloud Photo Library or delete the photos on your iPhone.

I am having the same problem. And none of the advices that I've read in this long thread seems to help.
Image capture only deletes foots AFTER importing. But I have tons of material (videos that would take long time to import), that I don't want to import at all.
Is there a way to delete camera footage from the macbook with the Image Capture, without importing?

thank you for the help in advance!

p.s. Strangely enough, I remember that once I have succeeded in deleting the foots from Image Capturaby simply clicking "backspace" button. But it doesn't seem to have worked ever since.

i think i found the solution guys, this is gold:

Plug in your iPhone and open Preview, then select File > Import From [Your iPhone’s Name]. A window appears showing all the photos on your phone, and you can move them around, save them to disk, and delete them from the phone individually or in batches. Don’t ask me why this is in Preview and not iPhoto!

I think this is basically what I said in 2012 in this very thread.

Easy as pie!

My workflow:

I download iPhone image files to a folder using Bridge. (I think it does not matter how you do this.)

After I have comfirmed that my image(s) are in the folder (or in your case in Aperture), open Preview.

Click on "File". Go down to "Import from XXXXX's iPhone". In the window which opens select the images you wish to delete. At the bottom of that window the is a red "Delete selected items". Click it and wait fro process to finish.

Images are gone!!

Good luck!
