USB microphone not recognized

A very recently purchased Blue Snowball USB mic is not appearing as an Input device in System Prefs>Sound dialog when connected to my Macbook Pro (tried both ports)... but is on my G5 PPC. I tested both USB ports on the Macbook Pro and they both recognize and work with other USB devices. Tried plugging in the laptop instead of relying on battery power, didn't make any difference.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I agree with you that it should not be able to be done, but I assure you (at least on mine) it most certainly CAN be plugged in upside down.

That is the irony of the whole thing. It should be impossible. But the tolerances are sloppy enough on the Blue Snowball I have that I was able to do with the same pressure it takes to go in correctly and then I didn't not know it since the red LED still came on.

However, the Mac will not recognize the microphone unless it is correctly plugged in.
