iPhoto 11 very slow and hangs up the computer continuously
iPhoto 11 loaded fine and transferred all my photos. It hangs up a lot when being used. Sometime for 10 or 15 seconds. I ran Disk Utility to repait any permission issues. Still have the same problems. Sometimes it not only locks up iPhoto in a loop, but the whole computer. I normally comes out of the loop, but it is a pain. Anyone else having this issue with iPhoto 11, upgrading from last iPhoto?
Have similar problem, iPhoto is unusable in full screen mode, have about 25000 photos which my old iphoto coped with fine . Hangs for 15-20 seconds at a time if anything the update has made it worse. So far a waste of £45!
I have a iMac with i7 processor with 1TB free of a 2 TB disk. 5,000 photos with the most recent from 1 14.1 megapixel camera. iPhoto 11 is noticeably more sluggish than the previous release of iPhoto. I wish I wouldn't have upgraded. I cringe when I have to go into iPhoto now.
I am having the same problem with iPhoto 11 (v.9.1) on my iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 (OSX 10.6.4). I have 20,000 images in my iPhoto library. I did the upgrade to v9.1 before I ran iPhoto. When I run iPhoto, the application freezes for a few minutes when I try to edit or email an image, or sometimes when I select more than one image or try to scroll. Sometimes the images distort and the screen seems to freeze, but will go blank and then come back to show the images again after several minutes. I have tried all the Command-Option resets in various combinations (some taking several hours to complete) and it still freezes. On my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, iPhoto 11 is working as advertised. This problem seems to impact my older iMac but reading other's complaints, it may also affect the Core 2 Duo and newer machines too. Help Apple...this really needs to be fixed...and soon.
Feedback is good, but they do know about this and have actually asked for copies of selected iPhoto libraries to try to rectify the problems with the iLife update.
Count me in on this, too - massive slowdowns. Performance of iPhoto 9 is like going back to the old 68K days of Macs. iLife 11 is a mega-disappointment. What a mess. Don't waste your time deleting cache and prefs files and most of the other attempted fixes posted all throughout these forums. Apple has some serious repairs to do.
Count me in on this thread too. I've used the iPhoto 11 feedback form to send a message to Apple. Why has this HUGE issue gone unanswered by Apple??? I have a 2007 Mac Pro, Nvidia 7300 graphics, which is more than enough to display some photos. I think Apple missed something in there QA testing and use case tests. Luckily I have a nightly backup of my library.
Same issues as all above for me too. Biggest freezeup occurs in anything to do with Projects (eg: Letterpress) - and I have no access at all to the new 'bookshelf view' in projects (as seen in their promotion for iPhoto11. Anyone else know how to see it?
27" iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 6gb ram having the same hangs, freezes and full on lockups as well. 😟 Why upgrade if the bad is going to get worse!?!?! Apple you really do need to "Get back to Mac" and give us a reason not to go elsewhere for media related software.
I've been having the same slowness/non-responsive issues with iPhoto '11. Very irritating. Hoping there will be a software update addressing this problem soon.
Wow, turn of events now. iPhoto '11 actually seems speedy for me. It looks as though it's working as it should be because it's no longer scanning Faces. Is that because it has scanned every photo finally for suggestive faces to apply to each photo?
