A Sad day.. Xserve discontinued...

http://images.apple.com/xserve/pdf/L422277AXserveGuide.pdf

Personally I'm not the least bit happy about this.. I don't want a rack full of MacPro's or a shelf full of under powered mac mini's... I utilise the LOM card.. I run 2 power supplies and want the ability to quickly and easily hot swap parts.... I know this is not the place for writing such things but I am disappointed to see the end of a great product with no true replacement available for it.

Many thanks

Nice post Hylas, the funny thing is i've bought and sold more Xserves recently than ever before and most to new customers.. There is obviously a market for them and as Apple back tracked on Final Cut I hope they do consider replacing the Xserve with something more capable than the mini and Mac Pro. Oh and er uhm improving on Lion Server considerably.... If the Apple TV is a hobby and still has potential the enterprise market should be given time to adopt. I doubt very much that sales of the Xserve were down year over year.

All the best

I just spoke with Apple Enterprise Support today and the guy there said that Apple DOES read and act on comments given through their feedback link here:

http://www.apple.com/feedback

He gave an example of how many people complained about losing features that were part of the discontinued Final Cut Server product and how Apple listened and added those features into Final Cut Pro X.

If everyone who has written on this thread submits their feedback to the link above, there is a good chance that Apple will listen and possibly make a new Xserve. Who wouldn't want an "Xserve 2" or an "Xserve Pro"--whatever they want to call it--with new dual Xeon E5 8-core chips?!

I've already written, what's 2 minutes out of your life to get this ball rolling?
