iPhone 4 Contacts Disappeared After Receiving Text Message

I tried all the mentioned methods and nothing worked. Not only most of the contacts are gone, but when I add a new contact, it dissapears within few minutes.

I don't think Mobile Me is the only root cause because I never activated Mobile Me when this happened to me.

If you use iCloud for your contacts then go into iCloud settings, turn off contacts, select keep on phone, wait a few seconds, turn on contacts, select merge. Problem should be solved.

Had same problem, i went into the icloud settings and turned contacts off then chose the "keep contacts" option and they all re-appeared, was starting to panic when they all disappeared!!

Hi, did you ever manage to find out how to resolve your issue with only email addresses showing and no telephone numbers in your contacts because I have exactly the same problem?

Same here, contacts keep dissappearing for quite a while now. It's getting very annoying. I sync contacts with Yahoo, no use of Icloud. Apple, do something about this, please!

I didn't read through the whole thread but I have seen someone uninstaled Emoji and it brought the contacts back. I tried that with no luck. I had just updated like 20 some apps so I'm blaming that.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. I am hoping someone has a fix for this too.
