Home Sharing not working, nor Apple TV

Hello, and thanks to anyone who can help me.

I having trouble getting Home Sharing to work. Everytime I set it up in Itunes, after I click done, the Home Sharing tab dissapears on the left side, and not shared libraries or the 2nd Gen Apple TV I bought yesterday appear. Also, on the Apple TV, the computers to not appear.

Apple TV does connect to the wireless network, and the radio and Flickr works, so it is connected.

My setup.....

I have a new Gateway Desktop and year ole Gateway laptop, both running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Both computers have Itunes 10.0.1.22

They are all on the same network. The Desktop is wired to a Qwest router. The Laptop and Apple TV connect to the router wirelessly.

I have firewalls turned off on both computers and the router. I also set up "allow" rules through the Windows firewall through the ports the programs use (TCP 3689 and UDP 5353), and port forwarded the ports on my router (which shouldn't matter anyway if they are off, correct?

Am I missing something? Anyone else have the same problem?

So I e-mailed Qwest about the PK5000 issue.

I never heard back but less than 72 hours later there was a package on my doorstep that looked alot like a modem and was infact the ZyXEL pk5000z. I've got it hooked and up indeed all is well again.

I'm impressed with Qwest for sending out a new modem so fast, although still weird they never e-mailed me a reply.

So it's definitely an issue with the PK5000. hopefully anyone with this problem can get another modem.

I had this problem with my apple TV for some time and finally resolved the issue!

I've checked all my router ports settings and also checked my firewall. Sometimes; by default, Windows firewall remains active even if you install something like Norton Antivirus and others. So make sure it is switched off first.

I've then upgraded my routers as well as my Apple TV; still with no luck.

Finally, as an afterthought, I updated my Belkin Powerline AV connection - which like similar products; simply encode network comms on a powerline. Immediately after I've done this, my system saw the Apple TV.

So it's not always the obvious components like the router or firewall that causes the problems. In my case it was the powerline networkl connection. Maybe some of you have similar devices that causes the same problem.

Good luck with getting things working.

I believe i found out what is the problem !
it's under your router WALN stings
Check your router WALN stings , and look for (Guard Interval)
Check the mood of Guard Interval , if the mood is (long) change it to (Short)
Then click on Submit or OK .
Wait for your WALN network to Disconnect and Connect
Then check the sharing between your iTunes and APT

I hope this will solve the problem ..

I had the same problem. I had double checked everything in my set up and it was all done correctly, I turned off my firewall and opened the ports too but to no avail. I checked to make sure I had all the latest software and firmware updates (which I had). My service provider told me to download a program and use it to change the settings in my modem which I did, however that somehow broke my modem which, ironically, turned out to be a good thing because I went and "borrowed" my mam and dads modem and everything worked perfectly with that one. So my advice is to try a different modem and see if that works.

Footnote: My service provider is sending me out a new modem but I don't think that will work either so I bought the time capsule and I'll see if that bypasses the modem. If not, I'll "borrow" my mam and dads modem again and give them mine. I'll let you know in a few days.

Had the same problem. Tried all of the solutions posted here, and none worked. It occurred to me that unplugging the AppleTV box was the one thing I hadn't tried yet...and of course it worked. Hope that helps at least one of you.

It worked for me! Thanks a lot

I had the same problem. Then I realized....

When you log into your home sharing - it looks like you should click on the Done button below where the screen says "Home Sharing Is Now On". DON'T DO THAT!

Pretty simple. 🙂

Works fine for me now... seems to be just a simple formatting problem. Perhaps that button should be labeled "Stop Home Sharing" instead of "Done".

Hi.

I feel your frustration. In case you haven't solved the problem yet, you should try unplugging all the cables from the apple tv, so it resets the apple tv as far as i know.

I tried reconfiguring my router, disabled/enabled firewalls, turning on and off home sharing, resetting router (worked some times) and lots more. Nothing really seemed to work, so i tried unplugging the apple tv from the wall and hdmi too, now my library suddenly showed up.

I will keep you updated if it somehow fails again 🙂
