Home Sharing not working, nor Apple TV

Hello, and thanks to anyone who can help me.

I having trouble getting Home Sharing to work. Everytime I set it up in Itunes, after I click done, the Home Sharing tab dissapears on the left side, and not shared libraries or the 2nd Gen Apple TV I bought yesterday appear. Also, on the Apple TV, the computers to not appear.

Apple TV does connect to the wireless network, and the radio and Flickr works, so it is connected.

My setup.....

I have a new Gateway Desktop and year ole Gateway laptop, both running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Both computers have Itunes 10.0.1.22

They are all on the same network. The Desktop is wired to a Qwest router. The Laptop and Apple TV connect to the router wirelessly.

I have firewalls turned off on both computers and the router. I also set up "allow" rules through the Windows firewall through the ports the programs use (TCP 3689 and UDP 5353), and port forwarded the ports on my router (which shouldn't matter anyway if they are off, correct?

Am I missing something? Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm having the same issues as the O.P.. I've read all support articles referring to this issue. They have not helped in the least, although informative.

My Apple TV has the most current update as of Sunday 12/28/2010.

iTunes is current with the 10.1.0.56 update.

I'm using Windows 7 on a 64bit OS. Same network, wirelessly over a Qwest Modem Actiontec PK5000.

I've tried with the firewall turned off and on.

Madduxfanbrian, you are not alone.

Any available help or insight into this issue would be much appreciated.

Yes, I have the same problem... I have the appletv and both of my laptops show up fine in home sharing on the appletv but not my main desktop where all the media is!!! I've turned off the firewall/allowed the ports... No dice.

Then I realized my main desktop library wasnt showing up in the laptops as shared media either... So I uninstalled k9 web filter and also disabled teatimer from spybot, now my desktop itunes library at least shows as shared on the laptops, but still not on my appletv! So frustrating. I've reset, disabled home sharing/turned it back on. No luck! Any ideas out there?

I which I could troubleshoot apple products more...

Hey Everyone!

I recently had to deal with this problem as well. I had home sharing set up properly on my pc on iTunes 10 and had it sharing perfectly with my laptop, iphone4 and Apple TV. However later that day it stopped working for no reason at all. I was really annoyed! I tried signing out, deauthorizing my accounts, and turning off and on the home sharing option. Nothing worked!

Then I just decided to reset my wireless networking via my router manually by re-saving my password. I usually have to do this for my laptop and PS3 once in awhile. BINGO! All of a sudden iTunes began sharing properly again with all of my sources and Apple TV and my iPhone were working again! Airplay(ing) of all my music, photos and videos/movies was working perfectly.

I'm not using an Apple router, so for those of you who are experiencin this problem without an Apple router give this a try...you have nothing to lose!

Hello patrickdng, thank you so much for replying and offering some help. Unfortunately for me this did not work. I was very hopeful as this was something I had not tried as of yet.

What I have found is the Apple Remote App for my iPod touch works flawlessly with my Apple TV all while Home Sharing turned on for both. I'm leaning towards to possibility that the issue of iTunes not connecting with Apple TV is stemming from my desktop. I'm still stumped though as what it could be.

Back to the drawing board...
