wifi drains 5% of battery per hour in SLEEP MODE

Last night I went to bed with 50% of battery on my iphone 4. Nothing was on except wifi, no app DLed from app store, autolock in every minute. This morning when i got up the phone was dead and i cant even turn it on. After some observation i found out that with my wifi on, it drains 5% of battery per hour. If i turn wifi off, the battery didn't drop anyting after one hour. Is that a common problem or just me? Do i need to go to apple store to change another one?

thx

I appear to have resolved my issue.

Turns out I had a problem with my cellular data connection (voice was fine, but I had no 3G or Edge), which was causing it to constantly use wifi as a fallback, even while sleeping.

I had initially assumed this data problem was a simple oversight on my plan (it's a brand new corporate plan), but after spending some time on the phone with Rogers they confirmed that data should be active on my phone and that there was definitely something wrong on my end.

When I originally upgraded from my 3G, I made a backup of it, then setup my new 4 by "restoring" from this backup file. Apparently this can cause problems. So I restored again, this time "As a new phone", then synced my apps and contacts, and now everything seems good... 3G/Edge are working, Wifi now disconnects when asleep, and I only lost a few battery percent overnight.

The only annoyance now is, I've lost all my data and settings. My To-Do manager is empty, all game progress is gone, etc. Is there a way to retain your data and settings when setting up "as a new phone"? I was told it was "incredibly easy" to move everything from one model of iPhone to another.

The problem I was having was battery at full charge would drain overnight or when not in use.
By doubleclicking the button at bottom of Itouch noted that there were no applications running.
Through process of elimination noted that the STORE was causing the problem.
Goto settings, "Store" and sign out / logg off from the store.
Battery quit draining.

I too have seen the battery drain by 5-6% when wi-fi is enabled. I have tried switching wi-fi off, with nothing other than Edge running I get 4% drain over a 14 hour period. I have no push email enabled. As soon as I enable wi-fi the battery drains at 6% per hour. This is with no apps running and the phone in standby apart from an hourly check. I believe wifi is remaining active when the phone is in standby. This behaviour has only started with the ios 4.2.1 update.

This is not normal behaviour. When I am at home I turn mobile data off and use WiFi exclusively. If I leave the phone all night I might use 5% during the whole night and that is without shutting down apps because I know that they don't drain the battery, contrary to what people might say, and with push and fetch enabled on a variety of email accounts.
