I have no idea whether this will change in a future update, though it seems like an obvious thing to add at some point. It is possible. Open the app and press gift it under the menu. I have done this before but you need to have a credit card on the account.

How did you do this from iTune? I do not see any option to send a song to a friend as gift. Can you tell me exactly which options you have used? Thanks.
I doubt that the original poster is going to respond given that s/he posted a year and a half ago. I'd suggest you start your own thread with your question, making sure to detail what "iTune" you are referring to.
