iMac 27" i7 processor, MacBook Air 13" (late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.5)
I got my machine checked out at an Apple Premium Reseller.
They were very customer friendly.
But they could see no problem.
They did some color calibration.
They said display was normal.
I checked a MBP 2011 (gloss display) in the same shop - and noticed same problem.
They ran some diagnotics checks.
No issues found.
They offered to replace display (for free) since machine was under warranty.
But said I may not notice any improvement.
They replaced display.
I still noticed the problem.
I brought machine home.
I tried calibrating display since I now have a new display.
I tried the MBP15-9CBB.icc from http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=907257&page=2
Problem much alleviated!! :-)
I now have a slight text color change problem when scrolling - e.g. some web page links.
Maybe I need to further calibrate.
But this is a much lesser issue for me.
So did I just need to calibrate my screen or did I also need to replace it ?
I don't know!
The repair centre did try some color calibration initially.
But they couldn't see any problem in the first place!
So - try calibrating your color profile first!
Best of luck!!
I have a 2011 macbook pro 15 inch with high res display, and I'm experiencing this same issue. Including tearing. I told apple and they sent me a replacement which behaves exactly the same. Now im just waiting on a response from an Apple Senior Advisor.
i have today my new macbook pro 13 and i have also the same issue
checked in store with two macbook airs (core2duo) and they have it too
is this a hardware or software problem?
this is not normal, right?
I've checked every laptop in the local apple store as well and they all display this issue. In my opinion a lot more people need to bring up this issue with Apple. Nobody with Apple seems to think this is an issue, and I want a fix.
also with the macbook pro 15?
my macbook is now for repair and i'll get an answer within 3 days,
if it still exists, i'll return it
i posted my issue as a new topic and already get an answer

somebody can check this out of this fix works?
(i have my macbook back in 3 days)
See my reply in your thread.
(briefly, no luck)
thanks
no affiliation with this site, i've just found that it really exemplifies the problem; at least for my machine.

does the horizontal scrolling really look terrible for everyone else experiencing this same issue?
My MBP 13" (bought on July 15) has the same problem. It only started yesterday though, everything was fine before. When I use the trackpad to scroll, the screen flickers, or rather, black text/lines on a white background seem to 'bounce'. It is hardly noticeable when I use the mouse to scroll. Has the trackpad gotten too 'sensitive' or is is a graphical problem? I wonder.
are you sure you don't have that issue with your mouse? (same scroll speed?)
i didn't tested that
I'm having the same problem on a 15" MBP. I also use Serato DJ software and it does it on the horizontal waveform scrolling. Really annoying since I use this every weekend for DJ gigs!
All the scrolling issues are due to AirPlay. Uninstall Airplay and enjy smoth scrolling.
I don't have Airplay so that can't be the issue.
Bumping this. Any news/solutions? Having this same issue with a new MacBook Pro 15" (bought end of January 2012).
