can't print on hp colour laserjet 2500l after installing latest OSX 10.6.5

I can confirm the same problem. I haven't printed for a few days but now have 10.6.5 and HP Printer Drivers 2.5.2 in the system. Despite removing and re-installing the directly USB-connected HP Color Laserjet 2500, the "Waiting for printer to become available..." message remains indefinitely.

I attached the printer to another mac running all the latest software. OSX offered to upgrade to HP Printer Software Update 2.5.2. I declined and the HP Color Laserjet 2500 works fine.

Now I'd like to make the printer work in my office again. Does anyone know what folders to replace using Time Machine to roll this software update out of the system? I tried replacing Library/Printers to a version prior to November. No harm done but (at least parts of) the old software remained. The system offered the new printer software, I declined, but it still didn't work. I imagine there is a plist file or something that my restore missed...

P.S.: Have Installed 10.6.5 without installing HP Driver Update 2.5.2 and it's still printing fine.
