canon a610 digital camera not supported?

Did you load the software that came with the A610? If not, I suggest you do.
I have both a Canon A40 & A620 and they both work great with Canon's Image Browser & Camera Window software. I believe you can also download your pictures with iPhoto.

Can anyone share how they were able to get the Canon PowerShot A620 to be recognized in Tiger? I just bought mine today. I installed the software but nothing (iPhoto, ImageCapture, Canon utilities) recognizes the camera.

I also can not get OS X to recognize my PowerShot A620 in Image Capture or iPhoto (version 2!). Then again, it's not a supported camera according to the list of compatible camera here on Apple's site. I blame Canon, mostly, for not making drivers of some sort with the Image Capture SDK. Honestly, I just don't want all this extra software on my computer just to download photos when I SHOULD just be able to do it in iPhoto.

EDIT: After installing the Canon software, the camera is still not recognized in CameraWindow, Image Capture, or iPhoto. Yay! Money well spent...

Is it an issue of USB 2.0 vs USB 1.1?

The best thing to do is to get a card reader, especially since that usb port cover is awfully flimsy. (Windows has trouble seeing this camera, too, for some people.)
