Printing Wallets

I just did a photoshoot for my nieces' school pictures, and they wanted wallets printed, among other things...I see there is a wallet option when ordering prints directly from apple, but how many are on a page? and do i have to crop the pictures so they will be proportionate when printed in this size, or no? Also, I cropped the 2 "main" pictures in the 8x10 size to print an 8x10- will the quality still be fine when printed large even tho i cropped it? thanks

One

Yes - if the photo you send is not the same proportion as the print then the print will not print all of the photo and you may or may not like what was left out - best that you make that decision

Also, I cropped the 2 "main" pictures in the 8x10 size to print an 8x10- will the quality still be fine when printed large even tho i cropped it? thanks

Depends on the resulting pixel size - prints should be at least 180 dpi - 1140 x 1800 for an 8x10 - 300 dpi is better - 2400 x 3000 for an 8x10. If it is below 180 dpi you will see a yellow warning triangle

Schools don't use iPhoto to print up their wallets. If you have a 3rd party editor that can handle layers you can crop each photo to the wallet size and place them on an 8.5 x 11 canvas to print at once and then cut with a paper cutter.

Image Editors w/layers
Some Image Editors that support layers:

Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $79

GraphicConverter - $45

Rainbow Painter - $30

Acorn - $50
Pixelmator - $60
Seashore - Free
Portraits and Prints - Free
GIMP for Mac - Free

Then you can place 16 per page or so and print at once. But iPhoto doesn't have that capability anymore.

thanks, everything makes sense except for the "wallets" portion- what do you mean there is only one wallet per page? is this not like the wallets you would get if ordered from school, where there are about 16 on a page?

correct - the iPhoto prints do not come multiple up on a page for you to cut apart - they come as prints in the size you order

I'm not sure how to say one print per page and the page is the size of the print any clearer - single prints in your size - ???

It is really quite simple in Pages. Open an 8 by 10 blank page. Drag a copy of the photo on to the page. Size it to wallet size. Then use Command-D to duplicate it. Move the duplicate down the screen to place it. You will have lines appear to help you align it. Do this 4 times and then you will have 4 pictures down the screen. Select them all with the shift key held down and choose align from the menu bar to distribute the space evenly between them. Finally with all four pictures selected, press Command-D to duplicate 4 pictures at once. Move them right. Do it again, etc.

Now you have a full page of pictures that are wallet size and ready to print and cut out with a cutter.

Hope this helps.
