iPad just stopped working; will not turn on

My iPad has suddenly stopped working. I picked it up this morning to read one of my newspaper apps and it won't turn on. The screen is completely blank. It was working normally last night. I thought maybe the battery had run out so I plugged it is to recharge but it still would not turn on. Do you think it might be the battery? I bought it in July. Thought the battery would last longer than that.

Thank you! I knew about holding the home & on/off button but in frustration wasn't holding it for very long (only about 1 or 2 seconds)! My iPad worked after holding them for about 11-12 secs. Thanks again. :)

I had this problem after leaving my Ipad 1st gen for 6 months in a drawer, the Ipad was not turning on even on power supply. Tried the holding power + center buttons for like forever, tried alternating buttons like a mad man, tried all the stupidest combinations but nothing, no sign of life. Then I got the solution: the usb connector end (the one on that goes in the ipad), just slowly wiggle it back and forth, left and right, and you should quickly see a battery icon appear in the center, once you see that just plug the cable properly and the ipad should charge normal. I think what this does is give some small electric shocks into the ipad so the battery awakes.. Think defibrilator!

I searched this thread and all I saw was, "This was so simple. Thank you for the answer." I never found the answer I knew there is a reset sequence, but I forgot (Hold Power and Home buttons for 10+ seconds). I could not find the original answer everyone thought was so helpful. Thank you for repeating the solution, I didn't need the jiggle part but posting the reset buttons was priceless. Thanks again!

I had a similar problem in the past & it returned yesterday - I tried the aforementioned button presses & it didn't work. My friend said she had similar issue w/ Ipod & put it in the freezer for awhile & it came back to life. After scoffing, I tried it, as buying a new one was low on priorities), anfd it came back to life after pressing the 2 buttons. I couldn't believe it, but it worked. Hope this helps -

Hi guys, new to this type of thing but wanted to than you all for your help. I got my iPad in January and it stopped working and wouldn't allow me switch off/on etc so tried the buttons and the waggling didn't work so, I put it on charge, left it for half hour then pressed both power buttons and was able to power down. I just held them both down until the apple icon appeared then left it for 15 minutes then low and behold success! Back on track now but it does seem to be a problem with them. If it goes again, I will take it back to shop. But for now yaay
