Interent Explorer?

I'm trying to do some schooling online, and it says I HAVE to have Internet Explorer. Is it ok to download and will it harm my macbook pro?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Welcome to the discussion forums smcgee87 -

There is no IE built for the OS-X. You would have to load a Windows OS onto your Mac, and run IE from there.

The old Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac is woefully behind the times by today's standard. Maybe last updated 2001-2002 ??? I would not trust it even though it still appears to load up. Apple used to include this browser in the Apps folder but that was a ways back!

Microsoft discontinued support for the product 2005 and removed the application from their Macintosh downloads site 2006.

Good luck

FYI, if you are tempted to use a virtual machine on top of your Mac OS X, I just switched from VirtualBox (which is free, and convenient) to Parallels Desktop for Mac (not free), and it was well worth it. Parallels is hands down faster, more stable, and a smaller CPU hog than VirtualBox.

I have used VMWare Fusion, previous versions of Parallels, and VIrtualBox on a variety of Apple computers, but this version (Parallels 6.0.11828 I believe) really kicks arses! Then again, free is a cool feature too...

My two cents.
